At the invitation of Francis I, Leonardo da Vinci came to live at the Château du Clos Lucé and stayed here for the last three years of his life, devoting himself to perfecting his inventions. Leonardo was prolific and inspired, working as an engineer, architect and theatrical director, organising lavish festivities for the Court. At his residence 300 metres from the Château Royal, he drew up plans for a model château for Francis I in Romorantin and designed the double-helix open staircase in the Château de Chambord. The Château du Clos Lucé is dedicated to showing and explaining to the public the great knowledge acquired by the Italian Maestro.

Sometimes it is hard to comprehend that Leonardo da Vinci was real, a living, breathing man who slept in a bed and ground pigments on a stone mortar. Here we can reach across five hundred years to see the elements of the great man’s daily...More

Francois I invited da Vinci to Amboise, and Leonardo resided and worked the last 3 years of his life in the Chateau that Francois and his sister were raised. The gardens and museum of the home are beautiful and a splendid display of Leonardo's genius.

Do you know that Leonardo da Vinci brought himself his Mona Lisa painting from Italy to France on the back of a mule? This very Mona Lisa that millions are queuing for hours at the Louvre museum in Paris to get a glance at. Do...More

Not much more to say about this well-reviews propert. It was quiet and peaceful with very few visitors on the day we came. Easy to see how this could be a home where Leonardo would have enjoyed designing and exploring new ideas. The basement of...More

We really enjoyed walking through the park with the children to try out the different inventions of Leonardo da Vinci. It is a beautify park with hands on exhibits. The best place we toured in Amboise.

Fun visit. Most expensive chateau we visited. Not our top visited place, but glad we went. The castle was not as interesting as the other castles. The Leonardo exhibit was spread out with very little info.

We had a pleasant time visiting Clos Lucé- Leonardo Da Vinci’s retirement place. The garden is very peaceful and arranged with some of his inventions, paintings, bridges based on his drawings. Inside the Château, the rooms were refurbished with the old furniture. The best are...More

This was a wonderful venue. You can see not only where Leonardo DeVinci lived his last few years, but you could look at the large treasure trove of his inventions, many that we still use today. Lovely grounds also.

There are a small number of free spaces just down the road, next to a new pay parking area, which is not too expensive. There are signs to the chateaux from the ring road, and we found it easily.

Our guide had us spend approximately 2 hours each at DaVinci’s home and Chateau Amboise. We didn’t feel rushed or as if we needed more time.
