The lowering tide reveals the causeway to Le Grand Be for a nature walk around this small island. Offering a different view of the walled city and the chance to leave the hustle and bustle of the ramparts, City streets and packed beaches behind.

Amazing to see Chateaubriand’s tomb beautifully located looking out over the bay. Many destroyed bunkers on the island from WW2 and shell craters. Its a lovely view from the island, and dont get caught out by high tide, or you will have to wait until...More

Enjoy the walk to the Grand and petit be. We did not visit the fort. Watch for the tides to avoid getting stranded. Beautiful place to pay your respects to Chateaubriant

It is interesting watching how the shape of the bay changes as the tide is shifting from high tide to low tide, or vice versa.

A walk along the causeway at low tide, and then onward towards Petit Be, is an essential part of the stay, but the satisfaction is in the doing, not the destination.

Although there is not much on the Grand Bé, it is still worth a visit if you are nearby. Standing on the Grand Bé gives the opportunity to see the city walls and out to sea from a different angle. Somewhere on the island, there...More

As the fort can only be reached when the tide is out, you need to plan your visit. Built in late 1600s to protect St Malo, has a history through to WW2 and now as a historic attraction.
