Mont Saint Michel Tour From Paris

5 reviews
Venture to one of France’s most extraordinary and celebrated landmarks on this full-day tour to the UNESCO-listed Le Mont-Saint-Michel. In the morning, make your own way to the Gare Montparnasse, and hop aboard a train to Saint-Malo, Brittany. Upon arrival, meet your guide and get ready to explore. Following a brief tour of the heritage port city, continue to Le Mont-Saint-Michel: a centuries-old abbey and community perched on an island off the French coast. After exploring, tour the medieval town of Dinan before returning to Paris by train.

The tour is NOT for those with a fear of heights, but the signage - that included a picture and historic details - helped you fully appreciate the surrounding sights. And the area where the the clock tower sits is spectacularly beautiful with half-timbered buildings everywhere you look, wonderful dining, and shopping as well.

There are a lot of steps involved, so may not be for everyone, but I really enjoyed the walk up and the wonderful views. We were there when the clock tower actually rang and I think I may have lost a few years off my life I was so startled (not having paid any attention to the time.) Highly recommend doing for the views and seeing the structure from the inside.

A great view is to be had from the top and if the bells strike they make you jump. Good climb up over the old stone stairs then a wooden staircase to the top. This is a truly amazing structure. An informative video is shown halfway up with English sub titles. The old German clock is still in the base of the tower pity it’s not still in operation.

We visited the La Tour de l'Horloge on a recent visit to Dinan. I really enjoyed our visit, the views from the top are excellent. I thought initially the 4 Euro entrance fee per person was a little steep for climbing the 158 steps but do not let this put you off, the views are worth it. Even though you know the bell is going to strike every 15 minutes it will still make you jump. The last ladder to the top is very steep, visitors with low mobility may struggle.
