Excellent exhibition highlighting Pilgrimages to Sant Jacques de Compostelle. Set in very old building adjacent to the cathedral where pilgrims recieve a blessing before starting the long trek to Spain. The various rooms show different aspects of life of pilgrims from the beginning in 950 to the present day. Although the exhibits are labelled in French an audio guide is available in English German and Spanish at no extra cost. Staff of museum are all very helpful and the admission price is of 4 euros is good value.

I have known the town for over 40 years but this was my first visit here and was impressed by the building and exhibitions on the Camino. Whilst very historic the building was vacant for 40 years until 2005. After being renovated into the official start point of the Camino, they discovered two more floors below that which had been used as a boys school, one of which they estimated to have been closed up for 200+ years! We had a guided tour in French which added more insight into both the building history and the Camino and was well worth it. A drink in their cafe followed where you can even enjoy lentil or verviene beer! Something a bit different than the three key landmarks in the town.

El Camion is a must for those setting off on either the St Compostela walk or the Robert Louis Stevenson Trail. An inspirational visit with well selected lines to motivate those who will derive personal uplift from the gruelling walks. The personnel are welcoming and in particular François who is doing a fine job on reception.

It's all in French and extremely wordy. That said the booking desk gave us a nice little English leaflet and told us how the get round. However once inside the architecture, visuals and ambience make this a rather pleasant experience. It may have helped that we'd visited Santiago de Compostela previously. All in it wasn't bad , my schoolboy French and Google translate helping translate anything that caught my eye. Journeying through the exhibition is via a spiral staircase, there is a lift but not sure whether every floor is easily accessible. Some sections require the use of stairs. Note: your ticket from the cloisters will get you a discount.

The Camino had so much information about the chemin and the history of the chemin. The building itself is incredible and walking around was very evocative. The "model" of the chemin was really wonderful.
