This was another fantastic experience! The historical aspect of this was very moving. There’s less spots in this cave then the first one but you buy these tickets at the same time. There’s only about 33 spots per day depending on the CO2 levels in...More

We got at the Font de Gaume ticket office at 9:30am, too exhausted from our packed trip to wake up early, and just missed out on tickets to Font de Gaume (literally by 1 person). Instead, there were many tickets for Les Combarelles left, as...More

As winter visitors, we were the only two on our tour. Our tour guide who has worked in this cave for 36 years was knowledgeable and did and nice job of showing and explaining the cave art to us. The art here is much different...More

We went in mid-September and had purchased our ticket that morning. We knew our tour would be in French but that was all that was available so we took it. When we got to the cave it was not pretentious--it, more or less, looked like...More

We visited Les Combralles along with the Font de Gaume tickets we purchased earlier that morning. After Font de Gaume, we had lunch, took a tour of the Museum of Pre-History in Les Eyzies-de-Tayac and then headed to an unassuming little plot of grassland and...More

People are spoiled by the huge number of decorated caves in the area. This is a fantastic place with some beautiful carvings, the lioness especially.

The drawings in the cave were fascinating, but the amenities and explanations/pictures could have been more arresting prior to the cave. Being October and cold might have added to the forlorn and desolate feeling that the grounds around the cave projected.

Lascaux II is a copy, the others are originals... for the time being. Will you regret not visiting the originals in 20 years time when they have been replaced by copies, like Lascaux II?
