Porte de Bourgogne located on Place Bir-Hakeim is one of the gateway to the city of Bordeaux. It is a nice Arch by the waterfront at the junction to Pont Pierre bridge. The medieval gate has its historical value in the 18th century. Worth to...More

The grandest gate to the city at the end of Pont Pierre -- garishly lit at night (which is a bit of a shame).

It is just a celebratory gate constructed in the late 1800’s to mark the site of the ancient medieval gate, marking the entry to the city from the ancient road to Paris. The arch is reminiscent of other triumphal arches across Europe. It is worth...More

one of the minor and more modest city gates of Bordeaux, giving you access to Boulevard Victor Hugo coming from the riverside or even from accross the bridge.

Another gate into the city - this one not of the fortified mind but a fine arch in neo-classical style.

The Porte de Bourgogne is certainly the most imposing of the arches I saw whilst in Bordeaux. It stands at the end of a major city-centre thoroughfare, where it meets the riverfront. The area around the arch is neatly kept. For me, the thing that...More

You can't miss this arch, it is on the main road that goes along the entire river, lots of trams go by and it's an impressive structure. Although there is nothing around it except a well kept small garden and shops, it's worth the effort...More

Imposing 19th century city gateway, with a fair amount of traffic nearby as well as access to the quays by the Garonne River. Fits perfectly with the style of the surrounding buildings. Easy access to public transportation, in fact, the views from the trams are...More

This arch really commands respect. Seems a bit out of place in this very busy area, but, perfect somehow. Take a minute to study the architecture and something so unique to France.
