Chetham's has a long and interesting history, and this is very evident here. The Library is "something else" but remember the prestigious School of Music too. The buildings themselves are historic and impressive, bringing to mind a smaller Oxbridge college.

A must-do if in Manchester since it is so unusual. The tour guides who are mainly volunteers were great and let you wander and soak up the atmosphere. History in front of you at every turn!

This library is the oldest public library in the English speaking area. We just bomped right into the beginning of a tour with the nice Erics, who is soo interesting and smart. The library was amazing.

I visited as part of a walking tour of all the great Manchester libraries and Chethams has left a lasting impression. The parts I saw weren’t very large but were just as impressive as the depths of John Rylands - in particular I found the...More

Tucked away by Victoria Station is this amazing building full of the city's proud literary history and adjoining it is the music school. It's one of the oldest medieval buildings in the city and probably one of the earliest libraries in the country. There was...More
