Visited the "Gay Village" whilst in Manchester on Monday morning. So most venues were closed or setting up for lunch trade.
Set alongside a lovely canal with locks.
A Bright and colourful area with plenty of murals and seems to be a safe and friendly area. Love it!

Good city and has perfect transportation. If you plan to travel around Manchester, using a day Metrolink is recommended. I spent one day here and headed back to the airport with Metrolink. If you’re not in a hurry, going to the airport on this ticket is a good choice.

This region could make the rainy weather of England so colorful 🤣 We went in the morning, I think it's even more lively in the evening.

The night started out great - I (trans FTM20) went with my bestie (bi F23) having never been before. We were both excited and looking to have a good night.
They played great music at most places and we met GREAT people

BUT.
A few hours into the night we started being turned away from clubs and sometimes straight up getting kicked out because we were “too drunk”.
This would make sense if we were actually too drunk and causing issues for people, but we truly weren’t that intoxicated - we could walk straight, hold a conversation, were 100% aware of our surroundings l, we were bothering no one and we’d bought ONE round of shots the whole night.

I believe it’s because we looked like a ‘straight couple’ (since I’m a trans man and my friend’s a woman and we were dancing together) but honestly who knows.
It put a dampener on the whole night, especially since we went to G-A-Y a second time, the bouncer on the door let us in but another bouncer came in 20 minutes later, found US SPECIFICALLY and told us to leave because “he’d told us to leave over an hour ago because we were too drunk”.
If we were “too drunk” OVER AN HOUR AGO surely we’d be fine OVER AN HOUR LATER?
And we weren’t even causing any trouble! Just sitting and enjoying the music!
Every time we got sent away we tried asking the bouncers why and each time it was the same: “you’re too drunk”.
Yeah right.

Honestly, in my opinion, it’s an iconic street with pretty lights - but that’s it. Nothing more nothing less.

TLDR: Be prepared to be kicked out/refused entry to multiple bars for no good reason based on the bouncers’ personal evaluation of your appearance. Go absolutely sober unless you want to give them the ‘excuse’ of kicking you out because you’re ’too drunk’ after only one drink.

Going I’ve previous comments I’m getting the impression that the Village was a real LGBTQIA+ Mecca long ago. Nowadays is a just business and of questionable quality. If you go two different weeks you will see the same program (let’s not overreact calling it ‘show’). One and the same people ‘running the business’ and no outsiders allowed. It’s obvious that the idea of the place long ago was replaced with greed for profits. And to pump their bank accounts, they are closing it during the Pride days as asking for entry - like the Pride and the Village are their registered trade mark products that has to be sold at any occasion.
