Described as the greatest railway journey in the world, this 84 mile round trip takes you past a list of impressive extremes. Starting near the highest mountain in Britain, Ben Nevis, it visits Britain’s most westerly mainland railway station, Arisaig; passes close by the deepest freshwater loch in Britain, Loch Morar and the shortest river in Britain, River Morar, finally arriving next to the deepest seawater loch in Europe, Loch Nevis!

I thought there would be some narrative about where the areas through which we were travelling. Only four announcements were made - welcome, Glenfinnan Viaduct ahead, Glenfinnan Station and a sales pitch for a ridiculous Harry Potter store in Mallaig. A simple narrative would have...More

Efficient booking process on line and this continued at Fort William railway station and throughout the trip to Mallaig. The scenery en Route was spectacular in places and despite the age of the carriage the journeys were comfortable. On arrival at Mallaig there was more...More

Booked months in advance, travelled in 2nd class. I'm glad I couldn't get a booking on first class, no real benefit. Pre purchased high tea but it was awful, total waste of money ☹️ Train journey was good fellow passengers all Friendly and chatty. Lots...More

Unless you are fortunate enough to get the exact seats you want at a time you want to ride the train, you might be disappointed. We’ve certainly had better service on steam trains elsewhere, and the seats are pretty small. While rolling through the beautiful...More

A great experience and fantastic view. I felt like in the 19th century when black smoke was visible through the train window. Everyone is sitting and drinking tea and eating. Great atmosphere

Really looked forward to this trip. Booked three seats online in second class. The first class seats had all sold out, best to book several months in advance for these. We were all able to sit together and were able to have a view of...More

We did not buy tickets in advance, but if you get there early they do sell tickets on the platform. Glad we went, they give you lots of notice before you go over the viaduct. If your having lunch in Mallaig, do it early as...More

We were in second class, reserved seating. The ride was comfortable and the views quite wonderful but, honestly, I could say the same for the regular train that runs this route. A running commentary would be a differentiator, but that is not provided. I’d forgotten...More

Alas I cannot assist, I paid no attention to the seating. As part of a coach tour we were given a carriage and it sit where you could. My guess would be sitting opposite one another.....
