Much more than i expected
Nov 2021
I didnt expect it to be so big and have so much to see. In a few hours we didnt get near seeing it all. Wonderful displays. Lots of great explanation and themes to what you see. Also a nice cafe and roof terrace.
One of the best museums I have ever been to.

Interesting Museum
Nov 2021
A Museum with a strange and at the same time interesting collection of exhibits, nicely laid out and keeps you absorbed with its variety.

Best Museum ever
Sep 2021
Best Museum I have ever visited. The most outstanding exhibit is the building itself. Modelled on the Crystal Palace in London it is an exemplary example of how to design a Museum, with light streaming in through an extensive high glass ceiling. All exhibits are well displayed in uncrowded cases and areas. Exhibits include history, world cultures, science and technology, nature and the arts. Plus, of course, an excellent Scottish history section! If you visit Edinburgh, don't miss this.
P.S. The statue of Greyfriars Bobby is just opposite!
First visited in September 2021, went back in November. It's that good.

Disappointing
Nov 2021 • Couples
I so wanted to like this museum. But! It was poorly laid out in the new wing, and the cafe food is a lot to be desired (and expensive!). There was so much about lughthouses and not enough about Watt, Logie Baird, Bell and all tbe other extraordinary Scottish inventors and pioneers who started something that we still use and find invaluable today. Also, in common with many other institutions, I found the new wing sterile and uninspiring. It didn't flow, and missed out too much history.

The older part of the museum was but better. I enjoyed Mode and the Egyptian and Asia galleries immensely. Some of the other exhibits like the Argyle car and the Whisky still were awesome to see. Overall, frustrating, is the word I'd use.

Interesting & Extensive Collections.
Nov 2021
Large museum with a range of extensive collections with interesting & informative comments. Plenty to see, could easily spend most of a day here. Printed maps of the galleries are provided. Well worth a visit.

We went with my 3 year old granddaughter and she was fascinated. A great learning experience in a beautiful venue. It really is a great place to spend a day.

Lots to see (and do once things begin to open up again after covid)
Nov 2021
Stopped for a visit while on a break with the Mrs. Had a pleasant time looking at all the exhibits. It's a pity that a lot of interactive exhibits were closed off due to covid :'( restrictions.

That being said, there is still lots to see.

Lots to see.
Nov 2021
So much to see. It’s really worth a visit.
Everything is spaced out so you can enjoy without being crowded out.
Some exhibits had to be closed but that is to be expected.

Excellent Museum
Oct 2021
This is a fantastic and free museum to visit, with lots of different exhibitions from ancient history to modern times.
There is so much to see, you could easily spend all day getting lost. If you are just looking to spend an hour or two I would recommend studying the map and just picking out a few highlights.
Highly recommend the exhibition on the Kingdom of Scots and The Millennium Clock but honestly everything displayed is fantastic.
The museum isn't just about Scottish history but covers different cultures and customs around the world.
The museum is also open and transparent about where their collection has come from and the impact and role museums have in displaying the heritage of other cultures.

It can get extremely busy so if you are in Edinburgh for an extended amount of time it would be best to go here a couple of times rather than one big visit.
