About
Don't be fooled by the frosted windows, metal grates, and worn down old doors, behind the unassuming facade is one of Edinburgh’s best cocktail bars. This intimate speakeasy draws influence from bars in Berlin and New York, cocktails are stirred down and boozy, service is personable, and the setting is suitably moody and comfortable.

Neighborhood: New Town
Suits and shopping bags rule the streets of New Town, until after dark when strappy dresses come out to play. This is the city’s central business district with its smaller offices, clothes boutiques, and many of the city’s flashiest restaurants and ritziest clubs. The architecture along roads like George Street helps give it a swank and formal feel: it’s a planned Georgian development of regal townhouses, geometric squares, and self-important statues. But it’s also a very wanderable neighborhood, with a healthy bustle at almost any time of day and fine people-watching in places like St Andrew's Square which fills with picnickers around lunch. You’ll also find a series of cheerful basement bistros on Hanover Street, while dark Rose Street has something of the feel of an undiscovered back alley and is chock-full of characterful pubs and small independent shops.

    Secret Bar
This bar was out of the way and quiet, quirky and we loved the menus tucked away in detective envelopes. I must admit the shared toilets are not ideal and we only stayed for the one drink as it is pricey but it's a cosy and chilled atmosphere. If your budget is high enough they also have some very old and expensive whiskeys..no fear if not the waitress will recommend a cocktail for you. They also make sure you are topped up with water which is much needed! We had a lovely time!

    Great Experience
On a windy Wednesday night I was the only patron in this bar and I had a brilliant time! David and Elliot (sorry if I've got names wrong!) were friendly and entertaining. I never actually had any drinks from the menu, instead they asked me what I liked spirits, flavors, etc and came up with some brilliant concoctions. The bar has an old speakeasy vibe and the drinks match. Short but strong! This bar won't be for everyone but they do the concept well in my opinion and I will be recommending to others who appreciate a good cocktail.

    Love Love Love!
Absolutely loved it here, after we found it! I really really enjoy the concept of these hidden 1920’s speakeasy’s. From the knocking on the door, the period decor and the strong and short drinks. It’s well worth a visit if you’re in Edinburgh!

What a experience this bar is, one in a million. The whole concept is fantastic. My girlfriend and I had a brilliant time drinking their homemade cocktails, they tasted absolutely amazing. Would 100 percent recommend !!

Great experience. We actually couldn’t find the bar at first glance, then when we finally came back to look again it was pretty obvious.... a great idea with brilliant cocktails.

It's situated up dirty rubbish invested back road. The door is made to 'look' old with no name on it and locked. You knock to be let in ( i think this is supposed to enhance the experience) You are not allowed to stand, so have to wait... on a waiting list for a table! the placed only has about 10 /12 small tables. An incredibly rude waitress takes your order from the table, from a silly menu ( in an envelope.. more mystique!) However, don't dare ask for anything that contains 'perishables' for example a bloody Mary! They don't serve drinks with 'perishables'

All in all it's a very small dark bar, that I found scruffy with a surly waitress, the cost for 2 single gin and tonics ( without any perishables £10.00.

not worth going to this silly gimmick of a bar. I can see how some may think it's good but it really is not worth the effort.

The bar is disguised as an old fashion detective agency and you need to knock on the door to get in. Small bar inside with dim lights and cosy atmosphere. The cocktails are good but very small for the price. There is no beer available.

We were recommended this place by a friend and to be honest it is quaint and nicely decorated but the cocktails were absolutely awful and the service was terrible! Has massive potential but it’s hugely missing the mark! We won’t be back!

Really nice vibe to this secret style bar. Just knock and the door and wait to be seated by the friendly bar tender. Recommend for one or two drinks.

As my total would suggest, this isn’t somewhere you come to for just a quick cocktail, this is somewhere you come for an experience. Tucked down a small side alley, we found a big gorgeous door with a knocker. The door won’t open unless you knock. Please don’t be put off by this, it’s what makes this place so great. The waiter answers the door and takes you to the table. It’s small and so atmospheric. The cocktails are great and the staff are so friendly. Please make this a must see stop
