Castle has good info posts around the grounds. The upper level includes a little room for the head guy (laird???) from which to eavesdrop on guests in the main ghall. The jail room was suitably grim.

A small "Keep" type castle that was never a castle. It was built after the age when defensive castles were no longer needed in the area. Although it looks like a castle it was really more like a manor house. Although the roof is missing...More

The town of Kirkcudbright is absolutely beautiful and the castle is a must see sight there. You get a great deal of information about the castle and it’s history. Well worth a visit.

This castle is quite imposing & can’t be missed when visiting the town, it appears to be undergoing renovation at the moment as the internals are full of scaffolding. We didn’t pay to go inside as felt we could see everything we needed to from...More

Right by the harbour, and surrounded by the town, this is worth a visit if only to catch some of the views from the window openings. There is currently some renovation going on but you can still see most of the castle and get to...More

This is a small castle in the centre of town. Currently undergoing some renovation, but that doesn't stop you seeing it - just mars the photo's a little. Total time needed around 45 minutes. Pleasing, but if it was raining or busy I'd skip it...More

Its only a small castle but still worth a vist. It takes a bout an hour to walk around. Right in the middle of Kirkcudbright you can easily fit it in around the other sites to see.

A small castle in the middle of Kirkcudbright. A pleasent castle that is interesting but very small. Only a short time taken to see it all about 40 minutes tops. Still interesting and pleasent wandering around.

There are loads of ruined castles in South West Scotland but few right in the middle of a town. I have been to this castle before as a child and came again for the first time in 20 odd years this summer. The grounds are...More
