About
This is one of the oldest museums in Scotland, and is filled with the history of a very historic tow. Look out for the Banff silver, and the display on the Deskford carnyx.

it is on the main street above the library ( lift access) and has a very fine collection of Banff silver in one room and lots of local artefacts in the other. Run by helpful and knowledgeable volunteers so make a donation!

A most interesting small museum we were delighted to meet the gentleman who showed us a number of the exhibits and organised the lift to the museum on the first floor.

A lovely little place worth visiting if you’re in Banff. Although small there’s plenty to see and the staff were very helpful and knowledgeable. This is a little window into the history of the area.

Being from a little town originally, I have a special fondness for the hometown museum. They are the place to find the stories of the place and where you can feel the beating heart of local history. Was not disappointed!

This museum is a working site. While I was there two teachers stopped by to get information for their classes. There were letters from WWII and WWI catalogued and a great deal of family information. It was so impressive that the teachers were spending their time making history interesting and that the staff is caring and helps to the utmost.

Only two rooms, this will not take you a long time, but the staff person was extremely interesting. The items presented had good descriptions and there were pamphlets available to guide you on walks through Banff. I loved the information I was provided as it gave me the back story to sites that caught your eye and you wondered ... what's the story here. Go to the museum and then you'll know.

One room has a silver collection. Very beautiful. The other everything from Roman artifacts to examples of Jacobite outfits. There were stuffed creatures, mostly in corners, but you can imagine my stifled guffaw when the staff member said to one of the teachers in the quiet room, "Oh have you seen our punching pussy." I had to take a pic. Kitty is beating up a squirrel. Apparently they have a lot of stuffed animals that have collected through the years. "What to do with them?" as the staff member said.

Seriously though, I think the Roman information, the examples of handfast rings, clothing, and the historical: natural, political and cultural was quite good for a small town. Stop by before you begin exploring and pick up the Historic Walks of Banff. Give a donation. This kind of place keeps history living and breathing.
