Lots of old reviews mislead into thinking this bar serves food. FYI it no longer serves food ☹️. Im sure the beer is great. We didn’t stay. Too hungry 😂

I called into the John Hewitt with my wife a couple of Satyrdays back before going out for dinner near by. This has been the first we've been in since Boundary Brewing have taken over the bar. There was a nice wee crowd in and plenty of great beer on offer. It was good to see plenty of Guinness heading out across the bar but we decided to go for a couple of pints of imbongo one of Boundarys own beers and as always it didn't disappoint. Plenty of beers on offer and nice to see the range extend to cans also. We even took some for later on back at the hotel. We'll be back.

I was there for the anniversary of the poet John Hewitt’s birthday, organised by the John Hewitt Society. Lovely old pub in the Cathedral Quarter, and fantastic to see it promoting the rich arts and culture of Ireland. 2 guest poets read their work to an entranced audience who had braved the wind and rain. An amazing night!

The food seemed to be OK at best... nothing to rave about, however, the attitude of the dark haired staff member was appalling. She snapped at two of our diners and then brought a meal replacement and practically threw the plate at the customer. ..the replacement meal was re-served on the same plate as the first meal with the food having been scrapped off...obviously in a fit of temper. When I spend my money I am prepared for food to be OK unless I am in a higher end establishment..but in All cases I expect the service/front of house to make it special and encourage me to return. I will not be in The John Hewitt again as will none of my party. It was disgraceful behaviour from the staff member.

Visited Saturday evening approx.6 pm...great music session with top class musicians- well kept traditional pub - great vibe- good bar service and very clean.
Would definitely recommend as being better than other more " famous" belfast pubs we visited.

We often frequent this bar and enjoy the our nights there, however when the live bands are on we often have to leave. The bands are great and the music good, its just the volume ! Please turn the volume down a notch and allow us to enjoy the music and the company !

I have been visiting the John Hewitt for many years as part of a usual Friday night gathering of friends. The live music is always of great quality but recently the noise levels have gotten completely out of control. To sit in the bar is absolutely deafening, often reaching way beyond the 90 decibel level. Not only does this prevent any kind of conversation but it is potentially very damaging to customers and staff alike. Why spoil a good bar? Just TURN IT DOWN!!!
