Interesting juxtaposition of wildlife and industry
Oct 2021
Saw the area on a map and old leaflet and thought it looked interesting for a walk. Had no idea about the wetlands centre! Area now has many more paths including an interesting boardwalk through the reeds (well actually more of a trampoline walk made of plastic drums resting on the mud with matting on top! Amazing wetlands full of fish. Interesting old light beacon. Plus a myriad of interesting electricity pylons. Up close views of the former coal power station (biomass cince 2017) and CCGT station.

Baguette in restaurant disappointing
Oct 2021 • Couples
We enjoyed the walk around the reserve. Was peaceful and quiet. Went for a coffee and a baguette and was very disappointed. It was £4.50 for a chicken, bacon and stuffing role. What it should have said it was stuffing with little tiny bits of bacon and chicken mixed into the stuffing. Couldn't taste anything except the stuffing. Shame tea was fine.

Shocking treatment
Sep 2021 • Family
Where shall I start.
1) sister and I chatted to 2 girls on entry to check if ok to take dog in cafe, both not sure but thought it would be ok since our dog was in dog pram. We paid £3 for car park which I thought was very good price, the girl was very pleasant and chatty but forgot to give me car park token to leave.
2) asked lad at cafe he said all ok to bring dog in, so we pushed my mum in wheelchair and dog in pram by nearest seating by window, sister and I went back to counter to buy sandwiches/crisps/drinks/cakes, so we spent a bit of money, while doing this saw a lady trying to talk to my mum (who has dementia and cannot talk) she was right in my mums face, so I quickly started walking over, she came to me very quickly and started shouting "you Cannot bring dogs in here", I tried to explain we already asked and was told ok, this women was in mid to late 60's shoulder length wiry greyish hair, I assume was the manager, I was taken aback by the way she spoke to me and can assume she spoke to my mum that way. She said you can sit outside, only seat was a bench by entrance, why don't they have outdoor
seating area!!! We sat on bench and put tray of food on top of dog pram.
3) as we were finishing our food wiry haired women came back out, said not sure if dog walking area will be suitable for wheelchair as steep incline, (sounded as though she wanted us out of the place) we said we would try anyway, we were very polite to her, even though she never once apologised for the way she
spoke to us.
4) felt like wiry haired women was following us because as we walked down ramp she was chatting to the girl who took money for parking. I did notice sign for token to get out of car park, I asked the girl for token, she asked for £3 which I already paid as we entered, told her that, she apologised and gave me token. As we walked away I could see them chatting and both
staring at us. Absolutely terrible way to treat customers. I noticed quite a few reviews about customers being shouted at by staff in cafe.
5) walked around dog friendly area, Absolutely no steep inclines, if we listened to the women we would have gone home. Tut tut. We did enjoy our walk on such a lovely sunny day.
6) serious staff training on how to treat customers, especially the manager!!!

A great day out, plenty to see. Great restaurant with helpful staff. We found out after arrival that disabled scooters are available if booked beforehand and they are free !!

Bad experience
Aug 2021
My partner and I visited. It was nice, until we went to the cafe. We had to wear masks. my partner had left hers in the car, so was told she could have one as long as she gave a donation. That was fair enough. We ordered ice cream and she ordered a coffee to go after we had finished our ice cream. We got up and was shouted at by the lady that we had to queue to order, I explained that we had already ordered and paid. The person serving gave the thumbs up. When we left another member of staff started shouting at us asking where's your donation, which we had given, but they didn't see it. I don't know Wales, but my the way we were treated was wrong.

Cafe Staff need to be customer friendly. Wetlands walks and views are great.
Aug 2021 • Friends
I’m a member of RSPB and have been to the Wetlands several times.
Always enjoyable and a great walk. Took a friend for his first visit and he thought it was lovely scenery and so well laid out.

Sorry to be negative but I found the young Lady ‘guarding’ the Cafe entrance rather Curt in manner.
‘Put your masks on.’
‘No you can’t walk past the Shop to get outside.’
There is a way of communicating to customers in a non confrontational manner.
Secondly, again I apologise for another negative comment .
The Cafe closes fairly early at 4pm, drinking Coffee at 3:30 pm getting a heavy hint from Staff by sweeping up around my chair and table wiping doesn’t seem too customer friendly.
The Wetlands is a super place for all ages, I’m not a Moaner but please take these comments as constructive criticism.

Not dog friendly
Aug 2021 • Family
Visited on a damper August day - plenty of car parking charged at £3 which felt reasonable as hoping to spend a few hours, I have to say I haven’t visited anywhere quite less dog friendly for a long time.

Dogs can only use one main path which for the first half is just under pylons / industrial view which was awful and although it gets better, the “no entry to dog” signs everywhere else on the paths are just quite off putting.

No poo bins on site, there are signs asking you to take them home with you (I don’t know anyone who would take their poo bags in the car with them) so it means poo being left on the path or people leaving poo bags as not to carry them all the way around and then forgetting them. Dogs not allowed near cafe etc etc.

May as well just refuse dog entries to be honest, the view near the lighthouse was nice but not particularly worth our time with our baby and dog - wouldn’t visit again .

Saw a few ducks.
Jun 2021
We spent 2 hours here and saw virtually no birds. We did see a few ducks (2 varieties). I have an app that identifies birds from their call and there were reed warblers and a whitethroat there but we never saw them. The staff at the visitor centre were good and parking is good (£3). A waste of time for us but you may be luckier.

Something different
May 2021
Nice place to visit if its been dry for a few days. Plenty of parking spaces at £3.00 per day, unless a member. GPS NP182BZ will take you to the correct place but will be a few hundred yards down the same road. . They do have a height restriction over the car park entry , however this can be removed if you call them first. Free parking on side of road outside if space. Dogs welcome on some of the pathways but not all due to the birds. Also no bins in the area so bring your own rubbish bags to take home. Bar with a small selection of cakes but not very big . Lots of sitting space within the restaurant area. Staff helpful but worried about not having a mask even if you are exempt. Little bit of training needed on that. Lighthouse is the main point of the walk. No noise at all but its a shame that its near a huge industrial area .
