A Hidden Gem in Newport
Jun 2021
At the time of visiting the park was simply glorious with lots of wonderful flowers. Great place for family visits, or just to chill out and read a book. The cafe is lovely. The only drawback is that the paths are quite steep and may not be suitable for those with mobility issues.

Great for lunch
May 2021
Visited the cafe in this large park. Covid friendly. Clean toilets. Car park was pay and display. Food was good. Ordered cheesy toasties and jacket potato's. Both were lovely. Cakes are sublime! Really soft, fresh and delicious. Smoothies are made fresh on site - lovely. Lunch cost about 5GBP per head, so quite reasonable. Ice-cream is also delicious. The young girls serving were both friendly and smiley. :)

A source of joy in lockdown
May 2021 • Family
Belle Vue park is a strong contender for the most beautiful place in Newport, and it's been a lifesaver for us during lockdown. When we were only allowed out to exercise, taking my two year old daughter for a park walk kept us healthy and happy, and now that restrictions are more relaxed and the cafe and playground is open, the park can keep us occupied for a whole weekend morning.

Living in a city you often don't get to fully experience the seasons - but in the park you see the first flowers of spring, the cool trees in summer, the autumn colours. It can be beautiful in winter too, especially on crisp days - but we've had fun there even in the pouring rain.

It's full of nature too; in the park my daughter has learned the names of all sorts of types of flower. There are crows, jackdaws, jays, woodpeckers, tits, thrushes and a raven, to list just a few of the bird species you can see.

The park team are great, working tirelessly to maintain the park. Recently someone vandalized the playground tarmac, but they soon had it patched.

Cakes from the cafe are delicious. We had barabrydd and Welsh cakes last, and loved them.

I love Belle Vue Park, can you tell?

always beautiful, especially in the autumn

wonderful place to enjoy with the pooch - especially as the squirrels are definite wind up merchants and love making the dogs go crazy!

Highly recommend, especially as the leaves are turning now.

Not suitable for the disabled
Jul 2020
Appalling attitude today to my mother’s disability. The barrier was open, so as we have parked near the tea room before and displayed the bllue badge I drove down. The disabled parking in the car park isn’t an option as mum is in a wheelchair and is scared of steep slopes.
Today, staff could not care less that the barrier has been closed trapping my mother and made no effort to locate the council worker who closed the barrier. Shame on you. The cavalier attitude of the staff / owners was shocking. The one male staff member preferred to argue and confront me in front of my very frail, upset mother. Thankfully the council worker was actually close by so opened it, but we had very little help from the tea room!

Angry manager
Jan 2020
I was disgusted today to see an innocent women being told off by a manager at belle vie tea rooms, It loooked like the dog had put her paw on the table well from nowhere the manager came across and gave the poor owner and her friend a good telling off in front of everyone. There’s no need to treat people like this its appalling. I hope they complain about her, really hope it didn’t ruin their visit.

A Welsh welcome, good tea, interesting and attractive location
Dec 2019
We came here in December, and after a pleasant stroll round the pretty Victorian park found a warm welcome in the tearoom. We were offered a choice of tea or coffee – my wife often has to ask for coffee, and sometimes is charged extra for it. We didn’t have to wait long for them to arrive, followed by the cakes: 4 brownies, two fruit scones, a Welsh cake, a massive piece of lemon Victoria sponge and a big slab of bara brith, plus butter, cream and jam. More than we could manage at one sitting, so some was taken home for next day. The cheery staff offered top-ups of coffee, and were able to tell us a bit about the attractive Victorian building. The later conservatory, holding the tearoom, is light and airy. The toilets were sparkling, and I gather that the ladies' provided hand conditioner.

We found the AA and RAC directions tricky: you need to turn left at the top of the slip road coming towards Cardiff. We’d have done better to print off a map from the tearoom’s facebook page. This would be a nice place to break up a long motorway journey. If not before, we’ll go back in the summer, to enjoy the park at its best.

A rest while walking the dogs
Nov 2019 • Friends
I stopped off here for a pot of tea whilst walking the dogs with a friend.

My friend had a hot chocolate.

We were able to sit in a designated seating area, indoors with our dogs.

This is separate from the tea rooms itself, which was busy on the Monday afternoon. I take that as a good sign.

Waitress will bring drinks to the table after the order has been placed and paid for at the counter. Two pounds for a generous pot of tea. Decent tea as well, not cheap weak tea, although a little sparing with the milk, they might've given me some more but I didn't ask.

They take payment by card or cash.
