Agree with many other comments about the Van Gogh experience. Brilliant and so glad I got in ahead of lockdown. Recommended if you get the chance in the future,

Pre lockdown2 visit to the Van Gough live event which was fantastic.
Well put together with music and quotes from Van Gough accompanying images of the paintings.
Felt very safe and all the staff were extremely friendly and approachable.
Hope it is back soon.
Great way to escape from everything going on at the minute!

Brilliant Van Gough Digital Exhibition

We went to the Van Gough Exhibition at The Hippodrome. Brilliant! Really well done and superbly organised. You have to book a slot online and wear a mask. I cannot recommend the venue and exhibition too highly.

Van Gogh Alive - well worth a visit (just avoid the cafe!)
Oct 2020 • Family
Went to the Van Gogh Alive Exhibition and was very pleasantly surprised. Really interesting - a lovely way to spend a few hours, even though the main exhibition is about 40 mins long - we watched it twice as we enjoyed it so much. Visuals set to stirring classical music. Really lovely and so glad the Hippodrome is being used at the moment.

Avoid the cafe in the Hippodrome though. Tea in cardboard cups (probably some excuse about COVID meaning they can’t use their dishwasher or something...), cheap and nasty toasties and dry cake.....

Van Gogh Alive

I had a great visit to Van Gogh Alive today at Birmingham Hippodrome. The atmosphere and music really added to the experience, it was great to see inside the theatre again but i felt slightly sad not to see her in all of her glory like in previous visits post covid. Staff very professional and courteous especially in the cafe. Slightly confusing in the cafe with the ordering system and having to press cash but I know that's not the fault of the theatre.

Good but. . .
Oct 2020
My husband and I visited the Van Gogh Alive Experience yesterday which we were really looking forward to as we had been to another Van Gogh exhibition (in a church in Leicester), in March which had been amazing.

We drove nearly an hour to get to the Theatre, arrived before 2pm, as planned, to give us time to grab a coffee and a bite in their café before going into the exhibition. We were directed to the third floor where we stood in the entrance of the café for more than 15 minutes being completely ignored by the waiter and waitress on duty. There were a few empty tables when we arrived, and even more became available as people left (who walked past us) as we waited and waited and waited. Eventually, as we no longer had enough time to be served by the inefficient staff even if they had allowed us in, we gave up and went to the exhibition.
After we left the Hippodrome, we went to the Café Milano Patisserie in the Arcadian centre, where we were welcomed by friendly, efficient staff and were quickly served excellent coffee and cakes. We will not try to use the Hippodrome’s café or restaurant again.

We thought the Hippodrome exhibition would be better than the previous one we had attended, but to be honest, we were disappointed. Whilst more of Van Gogh’s artwork was shown in the main area’s presentation, there was extremely limited seating for the 40-minute programme, and so many people allowed in that social distancing was practically impossible (see photo).

If you haven’t been to a Van Gogh exhibition before, it would be worth going, but as I said previously, we were disappointed by comparing it to Leicester who are still offering the Virtual Reality Experience which was truly outstanding!

Something different

It was just wonderful to visit this theatre. There had clearly been a lot of thought put into the Vincent Van Gopgh show, the sunflower room and the photo opportunity to be in his painting The Bedroom. Whole thing was organised really well with one way system, with warm friendly staff. Thanks, I needed this visit. Music was a tad too loud, it hurt my ears and a bit more seating would have been great. Lots of visitors sat on the floor but I didn't fancy that.

This was very, very good. I am a big fan of VG and his art was very much brought to life in an immersive presentation. On until December; don’t miss it.
