Excellent couple of hours
May 2021 • Family
Took our almost 2 year old here last weekend. £5 for each adult and our son was free, cannot fault the value for money. It’s not a massive place but enough to see for an hour or so. My son loved playing peekaboo with the Raven (the sign on her enclosure said this was one of her favourite games to play with visitors). It’s great that it’s set in a garden centre with a large play area and also a miniature railway (train is extra cost). Will 100% visit again.

Highly Memorable Experience!
Apr 2021
I visited Gentleshaw for the first time in April 2021, after lockdown restrictions eased, and while we were still limited to what we could do due to Covid, I had an incredible time!

We were greeted with warm smiles and friendly conversation, and the staff did everything they could to make our visit as memorable as it could be, for example, my wife wanted a photograph with one of the singing dogs but it was looking in the opposite direction, so one of the members of staff called the singing dog by its name so it would turn around for the photograph. It's little things like this that make journeys all the more worthwhile.

One of the highlights of the day for us was visiting Siren, the Moluccan cockatoo. She was hilarious, and seriously cute! As we approached her cage, she started shouting hello at us, and then appeared to pose when I took photos of her with my camera. I decided to show Siren the LCD screen on the back of my camera and she appeared to look at it as a human would! Another very memorable experience! We felt a little bad though, because when we decided to move on to a different area, Siren started shouting at us to come back!

All-in-all, an exceptional visit, and somewhere I would most definitely visit again, perhaps after May 17th when we'll be allowed into more areas.

10/10 would HIGHLY recommend! :D

A lovely little animal centre with plenty to see
Apr 2021 • Family
We had a lovely visit. Went on a Saturday having pre booked. Not too busy. Loads of animals to see. My daughter loved playing peek a boo with the ravens. Lots of birds but wolf dog and some cats too. Really nice place to visit for a few hours.

Wild family day out!
Mar 2020
I’ve been visiting this wonderful sanctuary for decades! The owners are completely dedicated to their animals and there’s plenty to see and do. Great for a day out with the garden centre and park onsite. Can’t wait to visit again soon.

An amazing charity
Oct 2020 • Friends
Lovely staff, good enclosures, informative signs and I can appreciate the work out in by this charity. Bit small, but with time you can easily spend a couple of hours here, even in a rainy day there's plenty to see.

Great to be back
Jul 2020
We went up on Friday the 17/07/20 and it is fantastic to be back with the kids. The staff have taken great care to ensure all Covid rules are followed and it certainly didn't spoil the trip. Very happy we can visit again and see all the animals, hopefully lots of people will visit to help give the place a boost after months lockdown.

Afternoon visit
Jul 2020 • Family
We had our lunch at the cafe 😊 good social distance experience and easy to order. You can eat out at cafe plenty of extra sitting. Good visit around wildlife centre could see all outside animals and coming on with the new enclosure dispite being closed. Good social throughout maybe open kids play area ready school holidays would make more of a day out.

Family trip
Mar 2020 • Family
We had a lovely time here! Lots of different exotic animals that don't look miserable like in some other sanctuaries. My favourite were the marmosets and the raccoons. The family loved that there was a miniature railway and what we didn't know until we got there that it's attached to a garden centre (fletchers).
Very reasonable price that goes towards keeping the animals.
