About
Ludlow Castle is an unusually complete range of medieval buildings with a varied history evident within its walls. We are host to a number of events that run between April and November, information of which is available at the local tourist information centre and on our website. Castle House was one of the last grand mansions built in Ludlow. It was sympathetically restored in 2006 by the current Earl of Powis and provides a range of Independent shops, Tea Rooms with an idyllic outside terrace during the summer months; function rooms that are available for civil ceremonies, weddings, parties, wakes, meetings The 3 no. self catering apartments are available for 3, 4 and 7 night stays. All bedrooms have en-suite bathrooms, well equipped kitchens and sitting/dining rooms and views of the castle that are unparalleled. The Tea Room is a traditional English tea room with a glazed Courtyard, Pantry, Study and Garden Terrace. It is child and dog friendly with a welcoming and enthusiastic team, serving something for everyone. There are loose-leaf teas, cafeteria coffees, fresh juices and quality wines. A range of freshly prepared cakes and cream teas are available all day. There is a lovely walk around the outside of the castle where you are surrounded by natural woodland and outstanding views of the castle walls, River Teme and Whitcliffe Common.

Worth a stroll around if you're in Ludlow.

Pleasant castle grounds with a cafe. The Castle is derelict but you have a pretty good idea of what it looked like originally from the signs and explanations. You do pay on entry though.

Loved it, would go again soon!

We loved it and so did our two dogs! I think we went everywhere, including up all the towers. Next time I'll get the 50p guide, but for the first time it was perfect just to wander round, look at the information boards and enjoy the spacious feel to it, the amazing views and the idea of it being so ancient. I think it would be great for children, the ones we saw seemed to be having an exciting time. We also enjoyed crossing the bridge, walking along the river a little and looking back at the castle which looked so beautiful.

Enjoyable, but not a lot of information without the 50p information guide.

Spent a pleasant couple hours roaming the castle and reading the information boards. In retrospect we probably should have bought the information guide. Great views of the grounds and surrounding area from the tower!

Excellent morning visit. Friendly staff, easy to read notices and even though it was wet underfoot we enjoyed our visit.

Well worth a visit

Grounds are very well kept and so it was a pleasure to be able to walk around the substantial remains of the castle. It spans a long period of history. The guide book costing £3 is worth having as it helps bring the remains to life

Interesting

A large castle on the edge of Ludlow’s centre, very easy to find. The castle is now a ruin, sadly no rooms available to show how they lived at the time. A few towers to climb if you feel upto it.

I’d suggest a few more signs ti educate about the place, many ‘rooms’ were not described so you were left to guess what they were used for.

A nice small gift shop. Many Covid restrictions still in place.

Dog Friendly Castle
Sep 2021 • Couples
We visited here on a Sunday whilst on holiday with our two dogs. The fact that it was dog friendly was great. Plenty of space to walk around the grounds, there were picnic tables in the middle which we used to have our lunch. We didn’t go up the towers as didn’t want to carry the dogs or go separately but understand that we could have done with the dogs no problem. There were toilets at the entrance which you are given a code for after you have purchased a ticket or once inside near to the exit and shop. We didn’t go in the cafe there so cannot comment. Was a nice few hours wandering around with the dogs (they seemed to enjoy it too) on a slightly misty Sunday. Ludlow is a lovely town which I would definitely go back to visit.

A great way of spending a morning and learning about the history of the area. Sanding in the keep it is humbling to tink it is nearly 1000 years old.

Day at the castle
Sep 2021 • Couples
The castle is an amazing place and in quite good condition the 50p guide bookas opposed to glossy is good value as has pictures so you can relate text to right part of castle
Toilets good gift shop about average
Disappointed in no cafe since pandemic despite what it says on entrance and online and staff do not seem to understand Covid guidelines still operating as last year
All in all a good value visit apart from frustrations
