Beautiful harbour. Lots of nice places to eat and drink whilst taking in the view. Extremely busy, even in January. I’d hate to think of what it’s like in the summer.

In days of old in the hay day of Whitby's seafaring prosperity, this would have been a thriving place. Today it is as much renowned for tourism, pubs, fish & chip shops, ice cream and jet as it is for maritime activity but its legacy and heritage remains intact offering a glimpse of the past. The harbour still reflects its huge maritime past as well as the lesser maritime legacy without being unduly tarnished by too many modern day 'necessities'. Great views of the harbour are found from the cliffs both sides of the Esk.

Well after a recent visit to Whitby for Goth weekend, I parked in a car park near the marina, free to park from 1800-0900, I was kindly given a ticket because my tiny fiat scudo is apparently classed as a motor home/caravan.

Not a chance will I go there again, disgusted, Scarborough Borough Council are driving people away and people will lose business

What a charming harbour and for a first visit I can see what the draw is, the harbour is a lovely place and adds to a very charming town.

First visit for a very long time. Typical seaside town with the best choice of chippies in the country. We walked the quay on the Abbey side and watched the life boat launch into the choppy, white swelled seas. The end of the quay provides lovely views of the northward beach, with its high cliffs and uniform beach huts.

I spent my summer holidays in Whitby as a young lad in the 1950s when the harbour was full of busy fishing boats. The boat "Pilot Me 11" took myself , my brother and my late cousin out to sea along with the fleet and one I also remember was the Ocean Venture. We was very well looked after during the couple of days we were out fishing and was given a free hand to take home what we liked from the catch. Whitby harbour holds a lot of fond memories for me and the history is really worth reading up on. Quiet now but still a pretty little harbour in a little gem of a place situated in God's Own County of YORKSHIRE.

This is clearly a fishing port and I have never seen so many fish and chip restaurants in one place and none of these were empty!! It’s October and it’s raining but still there were crowds! Lots of interesting little shops as well as your normal “seaside fayre”.

Fun and family friendly, this is the best traditional seaside resort for all. History and reality meet in this working port. It is well worth taking the opportunity to take to the sea.
