Overview
More
The Whitby Jet Heritage Centre houses the last remaining example of an authentic Victorian Jet Workshop. We are proud to act as custodians of a unique and historic piece of local history and to offer the chance to view the only remaining example of Whitby Jet's nineteenth century cultural heritage, an original Jet Workshop discovered sealed in an old attic of a derelict property in Burns Yard, Whitby. We strive to develop new ways of presenting Whitby Jet, whilst still incorporating the traditional methods of manufacture and design. As well as producing a hand carved range of contemporary styles we are the only craftspeople to offer many styles that pay homage to the carving styles of the mid-nineteenth century. Pleas note: Our building is 250 years old so has 3 steps leading down to it. The Victorian Workshop has been kept completely authentic as it was found and is the size of a small attic due to this we do not recommend parties of more than 6 at a time in the workshop. We are always happy to help so when visiting us if you have any questions or would like further information please just ask.

A small and authentic place with close up exhibits to have a good look at. Interesting info and you leave a donation (of your choice) in a little box when you leave. Worth a visit. Attached to a small jewellery workshop with Jet for sale.

There is nothing else like this museum, so if you are interested in jet pop into this unique museum. It is also one of the best places in Whitby to buy a piece of jet. You can see the man who owns it polishing jet...More

There are lots of shops selling Jet in Whitby but this by far the best. The creations sold here are lovely and the heritage centre / museum is very interesting.

Here is a working Jet place. They polish and create the jewellery here. It is a working place, craftsmen carry skills from past generations. It is not your shiny shop front but go and support these guys.

We looked at lots of jewellers and shops selling jet because we were looking for a special birthday present. Then we popped into this place and checked out the victorian workshop before looking at the jewellery. The shop is run by a father and daughter...More

Down the steps you have the heritage centre to your left and the shop to your right. Immediately in front is a gentleman actually working on jet jewellery so it's an opportunity to see that up close. Heritage centre shows how a traditional Victorian (?)...More
