Whitby is sliced in two by the river so this bridge is of great importance. I have to say I did not think it was particularly special!

Set in the heart of town over the River Esk, the swing bridge in Whitby is well used by both vehicles and pedestrians. Well worth trying to catch it in action, I never tire of seeing it working. First opened 110 years ago.

During a trip to Whitby we were fortunate enough to see the swing bridge in action. The event was only marred by the number of people around moaning about the delay in reaching the other side - there are other routes although further in distance...More

This is a quaint little bridge, in a pretty setting. It's in the heart of Whitby, which speaks for itself. Even when you're stuck in traffic waiting for the boats to go through, it's interesting to watch.

Both a road and passenger bridge, linking Whitbys two halves together. The bridge offers good views towards the harbour if looking eastwards and up the estuary to the marinas if looking west. If you are lucky, or un lucky if you are in a hurry...More

It costs nothing to visit this attraction. Great photo opportunities up and down the river from this bridge. You need to use it to walk from the East to West sides of town.

The heart of the harbour. A very busy bridge connecting the two sides of the town. I have seen it swing open a couple of times to let boats through. It quite impressive.

You cannot help but to see the Swing Bridge at some point when you visit Whitby; you will certainly need to cross it at some point. The bridge is definitely the focal point of the harbour, crossing the river Esk. It has to be said...More
