A popular tourist attraction and remarkably steep but you can take it easy and just hold onto the rails if you need a little break, and when you get to the top, you can enjoy the views, including Whitby Abbey

A bit of a climb but well worth it for anyone able to navigate the steps because the views on the way up and from the top are simply stunning. A whole panoramic view of the harbour, town and the beach. I chose to make the climb early in the morning which was a great choice as it was pretty much deserted. Highly recommended.

Nice and easy walk up the steps (I say easy as I’ve done far worse walking during my life such as Glastonbury Tor and the Tennyson monument walks) - as beautiful as they are, you end up breathless!

Nice views from the top, just a shame about the amount of people as you can never take a decent photo.

We were in the area and decided to visit here as we had seen it before on a couple of TV programs. The steps are good and can get good views of the area as you are climbing the stairs as well as at the top. There were a lot of people going up and down these steps.

There is a church at the top which you can have a walk around and then there is also the ruins which you can visit. The views are really good from the top. This is worth doing if you are capable

We walked down the steep cobble path, & then back up the 191 steps & then back down the steps. It was good, we enjoyed the steps.

199 steps up to the abbey from the town. If you are fortunate to be able to do it on foot, it's worth the view at the top... those who cannot could still get up there on the circular bus route that goes around the sights of Whitby.

Something that many visitors are drawn to when visiting whitby, walking the steps up to the church, and just for the view of the surroundings.

I'm getting too old for this, someone install a chair lift 😂
So the count starts, 1,2,3,4,5,6,,, till I'm up to hundred and four, then the counting stops lol, as I gasp for air, yeah I'm unfit 😂
I'll take it for granted theres 199,steps.

It was loverly views indeed
, even attempting to read a few grave stones,
Half a hour later, I'm on the way down, watching some child's ball dropped, fly its way to the bottom.

199 Steps. They are fantastic for a good cardiovascular workout. If going with a group you can challenge each other to see who can get to the top first. It is well worth the climb, it’s difficult yes but, 100% worth it. From the top when it’s open you can look around the church at the top, take a sort stroll around the edge of the gothic graveyard to see Whitby from different angles and you get a close up of Whitby Abby for Free. Give them a climb when you visit Whitby.
