A redundant church repurposed as a classical music venue, St. John's Smith Square has excellent acoustics, an active calendar and a cafe in the crypt. I was here for the premier of Howard Goodall's Invictus: A Passion. Something on the events calendar could be tied...More

If you are about on a Thursday afternoon there are fabulous lunchtime concerts performed. A perfect fplace to take in the culture and beautiful music, and just around the corner from Westminister Abbey and Parliament. Resturant in the crypt is just delightful too. Great food,...More

This is a beautifully restored church in the heart of Westminster, now used as a concert venue, largely for choral music. The acoustic is wonderful and the seating comfortable

I went to a wonderful concert last night of the Messiah. I think is one of the best venues in London for classical music, offering also a restaurant downstairs. It is a similar concept to St Martin in the Fields in Trafalgar square, with a...More

I attended a concert there this evening. It was wonderful. I was delighted to try a smaller venue and it really added to the occasion. The facilities are good. There is very nice food on offer. Main meals for around £10. Sufficient toilets and best...More

In a modern London, churches are challenged to become more than a sum of their parts due to massive restoration costs and escalating need. In Dicken's day and earlier, churches would be drop in centres for the poor and needy as well as places for...More

I can thoroughly recommend a short detour from Parliament Square to this stunning and hidden square. The architecture is varied and beautiful, not just of the church at the centre (now a concert venue) but of the surrounding houses. The garden around the church is...More

Just saw Beethoven's 5th symphony at St. John's Smith Square church. The church had a direct hit during the war and was rebuilt, but somehow, it still has kept its charm. The acoustics is very good for such a space. The church has a nice...More

The former church of St John's Smith Square has had a chequered history.  Completed in 1728, it was one of 50 new churches proposed in London, took fifteen years to build and cost an astonishing sum at the time of £40,875.   In 1742, it was...More

We were attending a concert and came here for a pre Christmas meal, having been before & enjoyed the food. Disaster!! Expensive food, very dry, barely cooked pastry on pie, mean with vegetables - we did complain & they agreed. They gave us 10% off...More

If you only had an afternoon to experience London on a
grand scale, Westminster would be a wise place to
start. The ornate Houses of Parliament and Westminster
Abbey sit adjacent at a corner of Parliament Square,
and a short stroll along The Mall leads to Buckingham
Palace. Trafalgar Square and Nelson's Column are just
up the road as well. As captivating as the
architecture is, the wonders of Mother Nature are
