We had spent much of a Sunday in central London. By mid-afternoon, we had caught the tube to Kensington High Street underground station while on our way to visit Kensington Palace.
As we had visited this high street several times before during previous stays in London, we did not feel the need to dwell there for too long.
However, as we made our way along the high street from the tube station in the direction of Kensington Palace, we were amazed by how busy the footpaths and a number of the shops along the street were. Fairly obviously, many of the locals choose to do their shopping on a Sunday afternoon.
Kensington High Street provides plenty of shopping opportunities being home to a large number of specialty shops. If you are visiting the street as a tourist, it provides plenty of ambience, atmosphere and local colour!

Kensington High Street is the main shopping street in Kensington. Despite being located in one of the most affluent district of London, most of the shops here are of the typical high street variety with a sprinkling of upmarket and boutique shops. Use to come here a lot when I used to live in the area and haven't been for years. Hasn't changed were much, but still a lovely place to shop and eat.

When in London, I invariably stay near or travel to Kensington High Street - notably the stretch of the High Street between Kensington Gardens and the Design Museum. I lived in South Kensington for a number of years and Kensington High Street quickly became my local shopping street due to its good range of banks, stores, shops and cafes. There is a very good and moderately-priced hairdresser just off the High Street (Imenio in Thackeray St). The enormous Wholefoods health food store (63-97 Kensington High St) is worth a visit. Kensington Gardens (270 acres) are lovely with many attractions including Kensington Palace, the Orangerie, Round Pond, Serpentine Gallery, Long Water, Peter Pan statue and (if of interest) the Princess Diana Memorial Fountain. The Design Museum holds exhibitions of fashion, industrial, graphic and architectural design. There are pretty, secluded gardens tucked away in Kensington Church Walk and further greenery is provided by the larger Holland Park. The Kensington Library is located just off the High street in Horton Street. Also just off Kensington High Street is the exotic Leighton House Museum and Art Gallery in Holland Park Road. Kensington High Street is serviced by numerous buses and is easily reached by taking the tube to High Street Kensington tube station. There are a significant number of good quality hotels on, and just behind, the length of Kensington High Street.

Kensington High Street is a good place to shop if you don't want the crowds of Oxford street. There are great places to eat like The Whole foods store and the produce is outstanding. You have the usual shops like Marks and Spencer's. It is close to Kensington gardens so you can enjoy a stroll through the gardens after you have done your shopping and had a meal. Hotel Choclat is a must visit if you like good chocolate that is a little different, you can also have a tasting and even sit and enjoy a hot chocolate on a cold day.

I like this street, starting from the high street kensington tube station, it's a nice & very chic station ... there is no plenty of shops there, but they are quiet to do your shopping in better way... after your shopping experience there go to kensington Gardens & palace for a quiet afternoon...

Maybe not as manic as Oxford Street or as posh as Sloane Square but a decent range of shops and food places it’s now got Tk Maxx and Whole foods the former welcome the later not really required as London has excellent supermarkets serving organic products but if you insist.

A leisurely stroll up one side and down the other will take you 45 minutes, but by the time you pop into a shop or two, stop for a drink, and wander round the Whole Foods market, better cross out a few hours in your diary.
Most of the big names along Oxford St. are here, but perhaps half the crowds, so a much more pleasant experience. Some interesting Art Deco and post-war architecture, too. If you are still looking for more shopping, Harrods and Harvey Nichols are only a short cab ride away.
High St Kensington tube station will set you down right in the middle of the action.

Was staying nearby next to the embassies and loved the short walk each morning to the tube station where at any moment of the day, I could pop in to M&S or Whole Foods for a satisfying bite. There is no other high street in London I’d rather be in. Safe, convenient and atmospheric. Thank you, Londoners for making Kensington so easy to love.

I go to Kensington High Street every time I visit London. Lovely shops. I go to the large Marks & Spencer’s each time and also go to Ben’s cookies - both at Kensington High Street Station. Turn right and head towards Kensington Gardens for a nice walk. If you like scones, the Muffin Man on Wright’s Lane is lovely.

I am sorry but the Kensington area has lots of pubs and restaurants than may be available for your viewing. Perhaps a hotel in the area might give you a lead. Good luck and enjoy the viewing.

Hi, we’ve booked to stay in the holiday inn for New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day. We wanted to go for a meal somewhere and watch the fireworks, we don’t know London at all and we’re happy to get a cab but will it be too difficult to get back to the hotel afterwards? Any recommendations?

We are going to stay at the Olympia Hilton on Kensington High Street. What are some tourists sights within walking distance of this hotel?

Hyde Park is north across from Kensington High Street. In the park are: Princess Diana's Memorial Fountain, the Italian Fountains, Peter Pan statue, Serpentine Lake and lots of walking paths, art galleries and cafes. Kensington Palace is located at the west end of Hyde Park, along with Kensington Gardens and Round Pond. Holland Park is also north of the Olympia Hilton. Great for walking/jogging. Along High Street are shops such as Hotel Chocolate, Whole Foods, M&S, TK Maxx, Top Shop, Zara, etc. There are also many dining choices such as Bill's, Wagamama's, Kensington Roof Gardens and Aubaine --- just to name a very few. (for crepes, go just a short ways up Kensington Church Street to My Old Dutch)
