Accessible within about an hour on foot from the town centre, through woodland and moorland, It provides and execllent view of Keswick, derwentwater and Catbells, . Its relatively low height allows the views even under cloud cover

Good, circular walk suitable for families with young children. The walk can start near castlerigg camping and caravan sites. A short pull up to the top and in places there are steep stone steps. Very pretty waterfall. Can get very muddy in places.

This was the first "mountain" we tried with a young child and I'd recommend it before trying anything more advanced, whatever your age. Technically it isn't a mountain but it seems like it to the child when they reach the top. If you haven't time...More

Close to Keswick, easy to do even for children. Great views over Derwent Water and Keswick. A great little walk . A couple of the routes up are a little longer, but easier. Our route up was steeper , by the river and waterfall. But...More

Well worth a visit. A nice little walk from the National Trust Car Park with beautiful views of Derwent Water. This was my first experience of this and wasn't disappointed. People would argue Derwent Water is the most beautiful of the lakes (i'd disagree, it's...More

Don't attempt Lady's Rake........ It is very steep and slippery, and I nearly had a bad fall. So go the long way round from the Great Wood car park.

Parked in Great Wood national trust carpark and walked up to Walla Craig via Ashness Bridge. Then back around the top towards Keswick and dropped back to the car park through the wood. Fantastic views of Derwent Water without all the crowds of Catbells. Took...More

Yes you can but if you reach the top be very careful coming down, I found the path very rocky with some steep drops. I am no mountain goat so may be being very cautious. Would depend on your experience and how sure-footed... More
