A wonderful visit to Allan bank house, a National trust property like I've never seen before. The journey of this house history is that William Wordsmith family rented it for a time. In the village of Grasmere a short walk up drive and there sits...More

This National Trust property is just a short walk from the centre of Grasmere. While there is parking at the property for Blue Badge vehicles, others need to find space in one of the very busy pay and display car parks in the town. The...More

This NT property is unique I think in that it hasn't been restored but allows visitors to really use the space for art work even making their own drinks in the kitchen. The grounds are wonderful - we even saw red deer!

The staff and the house itself were so welcoming, inviting us to sit down, have a cup of tea and enjoy the views. Which we did.

This year and next the House specialises in craft. Take the kiddies along and enjoy indoors for craft making and outdoors for romping in the woods...look out for red squirrels.

We visited Allan Bank quite by accident as we were looking for things to do in the area, and stumbled across this quirky idea. The building was severely damaged by fire a number of years ago, and National Trust hasn't run through a thorough refurbishment...More
