Where the lush valleys of Hoar Oak Water and the East Lyn river tumble together sits Watersmeet House, a 19th-century fishing lodge, now a National Trust shop, tea room and information point. Watersmeet House was built in 1832 as a fishing lodge by the Reverend W.S. Halliday, the son of a rich businessman. The stone for the house was quarried at Watersmeet, above the East Lyn River. Sitting in a beautiful wooded river valley, Watersmeet and its surrounds are a fantastic place to walk, and enjoy the abundant wildlife and nature of this part of Exmoor.

You can walk from Watersmeet Tea Rooms to Lynmouth. It's about 2 miles along the river. It's very good excersize and the scenery is first class. The tea room is an ex Ellen stopover before your long walk with excellent drinks and food to fuel...More

Beautiful views in a very tranquil setting. Walk to Lynton takes about 30-40 minutes from initial car park. Worth knowing that the car park near the tea room charges (£1 per hour, including NT members) whereas the one near Lynton is free. It’s all very...More

After navigating a narrow road with sharp bends to get here from Lynton, AND having to pay £1 an hour to park the car at the top, AND after the steep climb down to get to the cafe, I kept telling my reluctant husband it...More

Hidden away in the middle of the nowhere is this lovely little place. Excellent for beverages and cakes and just to sit and relax and take in the wonderful scenery. We visited a couple of years ago when they were raising money for re-roofing and...More

Parked on the road above the house. Walked down to the river and along the 1.5 miles into Lynmouth and back to Watersmeet House to have tea and cake, the weather was closing in so it was over Exmoor as the snow started to fall...More

One of our favourite spots to visit. You can wander the paths for miles, see gorgeous river scenery (the waterfalls after heavy rain are incredible) and enjoy the tea and cake in the cafe. Perfect spot (if a little crowded on fine days, although a...More

Stopped for a bite to eat with the family as part of the walk along the river. Limited food menu but fresh and tasty. We had the veg chilli, soup, cheese scone between us. All very nice and in a nice setting.

Our visit coincided with heavy rain so the river was running very well to say the least. We parked up on the local car park on the adjacent road and followed a meandering footpath down to the river. A bridge provides access to Watersmeet House....More

A good place to stop along the trail and refuel. The local birds have become very tame and sit on the table to take bits. Well worth a stop

A long walk up from Lynmouth, to be met with a haven like this was fabulous.. A great staging post for tired hikers legs.

You can't park at the actual site but up at the road side parking on the main road. There is then a steep walk to the House. You can park in Lynmouth and walk the riverside. A very pleasant walk if you are capable. Not... More

The staff and deliveries have to get down there and there is a road leading down to the house, One of your party would then have to drive up as there are no parking for public down there
