Interesting way to travel. Price was reasonable considering it is a tourist attraction, The cafe at the top is worth a visit too.

What a great experience travelling on a cliff railway entirely powered by water. We started at the top, and once we reached the bottom we explored Lynmouth for a while then returned to Lynton at the top.

North Devon, Lynton and Lynmouth is a beautiful stunning place to visit. Natural beauty just takes ur breath away. Had a amazing time here, lynton is a town with shops and beautiful scenery. You have the cliff railway to lynmouth village that took my breath away. It was overwhelming little village that definitely had little switzerland feel.
A highly recommended place in england to visit.

The railway itself was really great with amazing views. It was fairly cheap at £3.50 each way but was quite a short ride. There's plenty of places to eat and drink in the area but at £5.50 for a 2 scoop ice cream it wasn't cheap! Other than the railway there's not much else to do. We took the railway up and walked down. We had a little look around the shops but all seemed very overpriced!

Card only. Absolute discrimination. £3.50 per person each way. On the way up, we encountered a partially sighted man and his wife who didn't have a card, only cash. I prefer to pay in cash myself (not everyone has or wants a card). Others are unable to have cards due to personal circumstances. We offered to pay their fare in exchange for the cash but after some argy-bargy and calling out a Supervisor, reluctantly staff took their cash payment after moaning that they now had to go to the bank and pay it in forty miles away as the local bank had closed. So, they admit that banks are causing an issue by mass closures, but nevertheless they add to it all by discriminating against those who wish to use cash. The two staff members on the way up were lovely and friendly, but the one on the way down was moody and non-communicative. In fact, his demeanour matched that of the miserable girl who was now in the booth when we went to pay for the return journey. And wow - the cashless bit was working great (not). My card couldn't be read by their contactless machine and the keypad wouldn't accept my pin number. I told the girl I wasn't trying a third time and risking my card being blocked and my husband tried twice until it accepted his. As all this was going on, an older couple waiting to pay suddenly realised it was card only and were not very happy. As people were waiting to pay with all the palava going on with the card reader, I pointed out that cash always works. Extremely divisive, discriminatory and not very efficient. The ride up with the two friendly staff was lovely. Great experience on the trip up and we were able to take a video of the 2 min journey to the top and some great views and photos once at the top. Prices in the cafe were OTT. £12+ for a tea, a coffee and two small cake bites. A mixed experience.

Thank you for the feedback. Yes, being a small community and now without a bank or a post office we have no facility for obtaining change or depositing cash without a 40 mile round trip to Barnstaple. Unfortunately the decision is rather forced upon us and therefore we promote card payments and assist where people do not have this facility. Whilst you may have had difficulty with the card machine this has improved efficiency and has assisted in reducing queues on site, a positive I hope that you agree. Most of our customers understand and are perfectly content with this and businesses are not required to offer cash as a payment option. As for the staff, thank you for the positive feedback on some, apologies if other staff were not as welcoming towards you as you may have liked.

Looked forward to visiting Lynmouth to Lynton Cliff Railway as have been on it before when visiting area and found it reasonably priced and chatty friendly staff explaining about history of it, how it works by water and gravity, and just fun chat each time visited.
Not today, price now £3.50 single and staff absolutely zero interaction with people. Just miserable.
Zero enjoyment of what should have been highlight of visit to area.

Apologies that your experience was not as expected, the majority of our staff have all been with us a number of years and you are likely to have met many of them previously, it is always difficult to identify what may have gone wrong, especially with the thousands of visitors that our staff interact with each season, we apologies that on this occasion our staff did not meet with your expectation and previous good experience.
