Really beautiful! Interesting walk with kids and little dog. Great spot for photography. Check out the museum to learn about the history of the area too!

Interested in seeing the gorge but the man who runs it only takes cash (kind of think straight away a tax fiddle), yet there is no advertising about only taking cash and you can only get cash from Lynton not down in Lynmouth. Guy says they have free electric but don’t want to use a card machine because it uses electric…hmmm somewhat odd. Rightly or wrongly society has moved on and only accepting cash while very ECO position is outdated and potentially less and less visitors will therefore see this natural environment.

Where do I start…. Absolutely stunning. Beautiful water falls and scenery, plenty of history with pictures from way back. Lovely walk, steep in parts but worth it. Dog friendly. Definitely a Must if you are in the area

Got engaged in a good conversation with the gentleman at the entrance about floods, ice ages and geology. Lovely fellow and knowledgeable. Interesting exhibits regarding HEP and Climate Change although something a little more interactive would've been welcome. The gorge pathways can be a little steep in places but nothing too difficult or dangerous. Spent an hour or so wandering about and found the experience enjoyable, thanks in no small part to the gorge being very quiet. One trip for the scenery is enough but the gentleman on the gate is well worth engaging with; could chat with him for hours.

Like many previous reviewers, I found this to be an extremely expensive attraction in Lynmouth to visit, and unfortunately it wasn’t worth the money I spent.

On our initial visit we were turned away as we only had card and not enough on-hand cash to pay for the three of us. We were advised that we could either travel to Lynton and use the only ATM in the area, or get cashback from a shop in the town (although the person at the entrance wasn’t able to provide any information on which shops did this).

The next day, we arrived with our £21 and were subject to what felt like a lecture from the person at the entrance about why they only took cash. Honestly, I found the reasons to be a little weak at best: while I understand that small transactions on a card machine do contribute carbon emissions, they’re incredibly small and definitely don’t compare with the footprint of driving to deposit the money in a bank - or even the number of likes an Instagram post by Ronaldo gets (a genuine comparison given to us).

The experience consists of a small museum & interactive exhibit, and a walk along the river - the latter of which was mostly closed due to restoration works (though we never saw any evidence of this). The walk itself was nice, but nothing different from a walk to Watersmeet which can be done for free and ends with a nice cream tea. The exhibition, frankly, was uninspiring. It was poorly maintained with a significant number of bits inoperable. There was also a fish in the middle of the pond which was either plastic or, worse, dead. Everything there was dated, and though I appreciate that the message was an important one, it’s hard to glean any useful information when most of the exhibits don’t work.

It’s my understanding that the Gorge also offers a number of holiday homes to let, and based on their website is also part funded by the EU & DEFRA. Additionally, a previous reviewer also mentioned that the gorge provides electricity to the whole area - presumably at a cost. It begs the question, then, about where our cash payment goes. Definitely not towards the exhibit or pathways!

A stunning woodland gorge with fantastic waterfalls and walks. A photographer's dream. The little museum was fascinating too.

Such a pity they only take cash, we didn’t have enough, and there’s nowhere in Lynmouth to get any. The grounds for only taking cash are environmental on the basis that a card transaction has a carbon footprint. This is of course correct (although minuscule) and several others also turned away for the same reason as ours.
Far better, in my view at least, to accept cards, get more people in and then educate them on the reasons for only accepting cash - rather than just turning them away.

Price is very steep. You can see everything that is at this attraction FOR FREE just by walking in Lynmouth/Watersmeet! According to other reviews, the owner is a font of knowledge, however there was no one around to talk to when we visited. We paid our £7 each and were left to discover the ‘attraction’ on our own. The map provided, showed that you could walk to the hydro electric intake however this is inaccurate, as much of the pathways are supposedly ‘under restoration’ but all we saw were blocked off and severely overgrown paths. We couldn’t reach the top of the waterfalls. There was absolutely no evidence of any reconstruction taking place. There is the exhibit when you first walk in, but there is a much better one in Lynmouth that you can see FOR FREE, detailing the 1952 flood in detail. The owner will only take cash…..obviously a business man! 😉 The whole ‘attraction’ took less than 30 mins. Not worth the £7.
