About
Located below Tintagel Castle, the birthplace of King Arthur, this cave is believed to be where Merlin lived. The caves are accessible from a footpath, but fill with water at high tide.

Lovely (BE CAREFUL OF THE TIDE COMING IN)
Oct 2021
An amazing place with beautiful multi-coloured rocks.
I recommend wearing sensible shoes as many narrow steep steps and slippery (but beautiful) rocks. VERY important to remember to keep an eye on the tide coming in if you go exploring the caves - especially around 5pm onwards but be vigilant of the tide at all times if you go to this mini gorgeous beach/cave area.

Very nice be careful

Very nice place to explore. Make sure that you have a look at the tide times as apparently people quite often find themselves in areas where the tide blocks the exits and opens you up to a lot of risk.

A visit to Merlin's Cave
Aug 2021
We visited Merlin's cave as part of our trip to Tintagel ... this made extra special as the tide was out and we could venture inside the caves ... also great to have a brief paddle in the sea .. be aware the steps down from the castle are only really for the able bodied as they were in a state of disrepair at the end which meets the sea on our visit with a bit of common sense and care these can be traversed ... don't let that put you off the caves well worth a visit.

Totally Atmospheric

The cave can be clearly viewed from the island that forms the castle at Tintagel. It can also be seen as you walk around the paths without needing to pay for access to the castle. It has a definite aura and I would love to see this during a storm

Magic

We went for my Birthday and what a beautiful day it was. The cave has a magical air of mystery about it and the waterfall is just lovely.

Merlin are you there?
Jul 2021
After visiting the castle we decided to trek down the steps to the beach, hoping to keep socially distanced which was almost impossible, It is quite a struggle to get from the last step over the big rocks and on to the beach but I made it. There's a lovely waterfall on he beach and after sitting a while we ventured into the cave. It is truly amazing . Not sure if you can walk all the way through as there were too many people inside it

My daughter and partner had visited just couple of months back and said that this is one place on our list to go and see. And OMG they were so right. Absolutely loved it. Rather busy but hey definitely recommend going ...Yes it was steep etc but well worth the climb. Just amazing going right into the cave . And exploring this beautiful cove .. So glad we put this on our to do list.

Check The Tide Times

We were walking the coast path & you can access Merlin’s Cave without having to pay English Heritage admission to the castle.
However, when we were there the tide was in so not really worth the walk down (especially with a dog)

Merlins cave proposal
Jul 2021 • Couples
Beautiful place to go and see. Bit of a steep stairway so be careful but worth the walk down. I was proposed to in Merlins cave and stunning view through to the sea the other side. Gorgeous waterfall running off the cliff side down to the cove.

Interesting, a must visit
Jun 2021
Nice walk down to get to the beach and the caves. Yes, there are a few caves that can be accessed when the tide is low, and one of them is Merlin's cave (which is quite special as you can cross to the other side of the rock, under the castle... magical).
