I went to the Zoo for Lanterns at the Zoo. It was about 12GBP per person. There are multiple themed areas such as Wonderland, Animals, The Jungle and more. Each area features lanterns some in the shape of animals, animated lit-up puppets, and characters.
Penguin feeding experience was amazing learnt so much in an hour! The passion of the keeper about her animals was amazing! Took time to explain and answer questions! An amazing and educating experience

There are hotels in nearby Chester. The closest is the doubletree Hilton in Hoole. Not cheap but very nice with a lovely spa. Beyond that hotela in cuty centre range from the 5 star Grosvenor hotel (expensive and a little tired) to standard budget chains. Zoo is a 5 minute drive from city Centre with buses taking you right to the gate.
