On one level there's just a few mounds - but what mounds! These grassy lumps are traces of very, very early settlements, and are of very special archaeological and anthropological - interest recognised by UNESCO. On another level in the snow it's potentially a fun place...More

We found this was very interesting, but you either need guide to explain the area and its significance, or you will need to do some reading before you arivee here. However, it is also just a beautiful setting to enjoy veiws of the countryside.

There's actually not much to see, but the area of Lithuanian countryside is very pleasant and calm. Because of the distance and lack of transportation from Vilnius, not very popular, despite its importance. There are more mounds like these for example in the nearby Neries...More

Kernave was the medieval capital of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. It is located ~40 km outside Vilnius and is well worth a visit. Even if you don't climb all mounds, the views are breathtaking!

We had a local guide explain the history of the local culture which was very interesting and helped us understand the site. We walked to the reconstruction of a period village which has very interesting architectural details. One hundred photos later I returned to the...More

The place takes around 30 min to walk around. I visited in summer so the nature was all green. Since there are higher hills, the panoramic view is very beautiful. It is a good place to combine for a day trip outside Vilnius. Unfortunately, the...More

A nice place to escape Vilnius or Kaunas. After long working day or in weekend to have a walk there is a great idea. The views are astonishing. It's even more interesting to come there when medieval festival is taking place

It is a pleasant place to stroll through; 10,000 years of history at your feet. After a good stroll I strongly suggest a visit to the museum. When we were there the reconstructed village was closed, but I presume in the summer there must be...More

If you are interested in archeology or history, you have to visit this place! Beautiful landscape, mounds... Peace and quiet! There is rebuilded a small historical wooden village! Awesome!

The pictures which I found on the internet didn't impress me much and I couldn't belive it's a UNESCO-sight. However, I decided to go there since I lived very close (in Vilnius). It was a sunny autumn day and the views on and from the...More
