Overview
More
Camaldoli was founded one thousand years ago by Saint Romuald, and is a Community of Benedictine monks. There are two houses, the Hermitage and the Monastery, immersed into the depths of the forest. They represent the two fundamental dimensions of monastic experience, solitude and communion. The monastic community is dedicated to the quest for God, prayer and work, and is open to sharing with men and women of today, mostly through hospitality. The Guest House offers an open space for spiritual and cultural research, for dialogue and meetings.

The monastery is worth visiting for the pharmacy and its exhibition of old instruments and books alone. You can find a lot of products to buy as well (such as creams, soaps etc).

the Monastery dates back to some 1,000 years ago when a monk founded it in the middle of the Casentino forestry. Up to these very days, some monks live there in complete solitude. Close to the Monastery there is an old pharmacy selling products prepared...More

Not too much here but the concept of monks living on a mountain top 10 centuries ago boggles the mind. Nice pharmacy with its famous creams and lotions made by the monks from natural ingredients

Compared to the hermitage of the same name, the monastery (located at a lower altitude, about 800 mts) is on the whole less impressive. Little remains of the original medieval structure in it, and the main aspect is Renaissance or late Baroque. The monastery was...More
