Overview
More
A local landmark and Kitchener's oldest dwelling, the 1816 homestead was restored and furnished, then opened as a living history museum in 1981. The heart of the complex is a fine Georgian-frame farmhouse that was built by and was home to the area's earliest non-Aboriginal settlers, Joseph and wife Barbara Schneider, Pennsylvania-German Mennonites. Today, history comes to life as staff demonstrate traditional tasks in concert with the seasons. The modern interpretation wing hosts gallery exhibits, workshops and lectures. Come for a visit and enjoy hands-on activities, special events, and more!

As my photos indicate, it's more than the primary house, with several ancient outbuildings so you almost feel like you are in a tiny village. It was closed the day I took these photos but we toured it previously. Do check their web sites to...More

The Schneider Haus greatly exceeded our expectations. Not only was the house impressive and the artifacts interesting but the staff were "over the top" enthusiastic, knowledgeable, helpful and patient. Our 10 year old granddaughter was particularly impressed; not an easy feat.More

Our Japanese student friend enjoyed his visit to Schneider House in July 2016. He learned about the Mennonite immigration from America to Canada and the frugal lifestyle that the people endured especially in Canadian winter. Each time we bring a guest to Schneider House, we...More

I'm sorry I didn't see your question earlier. School buses and coach tours can drop off passengers on David Street. Then you walk up the path to the haus.
