Fun way to spend a few hours when in Manila.
Totally fun way to spend a few hours or more while in Manila. FYI- Don't be in a hurry, depending on traffic (from hotels near airport) it could take an hour or more. Ginormous area of pearl vendors, handicrafts, tech floor...truly dizzying amount if vendors for everything. I am a solo female traveler, and felt comfortable there. Would go during day hours, and of course stay vigilant of your surroundings.

    Overwhelmed
You think you are ready for those flea markets, but you are not! Get ready to be pulled, yelled at, growped, did I say pulled ever so politely. Everyone is hungry for a sale, fake..Oops I mean " grade A" stuff from fake LV, to Chamnel, Celine, Coach to cute authentic souvenirs you got it all, that's just the first floor. If you still have it on you, the second floor has everything electronic. It's an experience when you come to the Philippines, visit once and cross it off your list. You gotta bargain..bargain is a must at least a few hundred under, don't be afraid to walk away next booth will have the same article

Fun haggling at the market for designer brands - but such good fakes you wouldn’t know it was fake
Love it, great place to go for some shopping - you need about half a day. Taxi from makati was $250 peso. We loved haggling for knock off handbags, shoes, purses, jewellery. If you don’t like haggling and having a bit of fun with the stall workers then this is not for you. Every purchase we were told they would give us a 50% discount !!! Or we were the first sale for the day so brings them good luck!! Right - anything for a sale but that’s why we went to shop, and we did. The fake good brands (Prada, Chloe, Louis Vuitton etc) are all hidden behind the front of stall as it’s illegal. It’s funny watching them hide things and transport the contraband handbags between stalls in black plastic bags so no one knows what they are carrying. When bargaining, you have to start low and meet them somewhere between your staring price and theirs. If you are not close to the money they will let you walk away / then you know you need to pay more. We came away with many hand bags, card wallets, purses, pashmina’s, runners, jewellery. Google before you go so you can show them what you want. We got 2023 styles from LV, Chloe, Vancleef and Arpel, Fendi, Yeezy, Adidas, Nike and more. Take your own shopping bags so the other stall holders can’t see your loot although they are good and could tell exactly what we had purchased. And take plenty of cash, not a place you want to use your card and there is an ATM just outside - which we had to use

    Shopping insanity!!!!
The shopping experience was insanity. Hundreds and hundreds of vendors screaming at you to come inside their booth for “special discount” Every single vendor said “ only special discount for you today, you’re my first sale” then ask for a tip after. Of course i knew i wasn’t their first sale. They suck you in to their booth and barricade you in so no one can see you looking at their fake bags. Definitely sketchy. The first booth i went in to tried to pickpocket me. I read that in a review before I came and sure enough, it happened to me. Thankfully, nothing was in my back pockets. Some of the bags are good quality but a lot of repetitive stuff with all of the booths. Fun experience, but it gives you anxiety the amount of people in there trying to pull you in their booths.

Overly pushy sellers mostly women trying to get you in booths to upsell you on knock offs. I was looking for a simple backpack or duffle bag for a quick side trip.when i asked for price was instantly told 13000 pesos regardless of what it was. I bought a non leather prada backpack for 3000 pesos and a pair of gucci slides also 3000 pesos. Everything is hidden and very low quality. I did find a few pairs of knock off gucci sneakers but again 13000 pesos... got them down to 9000 pesos but who is paying $169 for fake gucci?

Good part is they have decent food franchises. Its clean, safe and well serviced by transport in a Manila sort of way.

The actual shopping is either local focussed or Pearls and copy stuff like designer hand bags or watches. No Idea how faithful they are but seems a lot like say, Bangkok or Saigon.

A must when visiting Manila. The deals, luxury goods at a fraction of what it really costs, and if you're really good at bargaining will all speak for itself. If you have the opportunity to go for a few hours, you will be blown away by the amount of items you can get.

There is this one sales lady that left a really good impression on me from a past trip in February 2020, quite knowledgable about what is genuine and what is an imitation. I was amazed that she was still in business, but in a different area of the main floor. With all the questions you may have, her and her boss will be able to answer.

The Tiannge aka flea market, is quite big and you can get lost because one floor is electronics, another floor is clothing items, another floor snacks and souvenirs, you'll also find beautiful sea pearls.

Although I do love to go indoor mall shopping, certain parts of Greenhills have open-air sections and can get hot during the summer season, having gone several times in the past, you get use to the climate change in a few days. Other parts of the shopping center you'll find a Regional Style Mall.

Greenhills is located in San Juan City, about 20 minutes drive from Makati on a good day of traffic. They all communicate well in English, and make sure you get what you want, or at least go home with something for someone back home. Like every industry that was impacted during covid times, I totally understand that this is their livelihood and want to stay business, everyone wins at the end of the day.

It's best to tip generously when good deals are made, these salespeople and vendors do a really good job and treat your extra special, no shady business.

There are also many restaurants, spa services like hair salons and spas, banks, theaters & arcades, also a chapel and prayer room.

Certainly didn’t live up to the hype from all the reviews, I’ve bought better quality in Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, Turkey and many other countries . It was worth a walk around but just the once, it’s certainly an experience I will not repeat.

A warning to tourists, we experienced aggressiveness from a vendor selling fake bags.

A tactic they now use is to hold most of their stock behind a plastic curtain so you need to enter a small space with a narrow entry point to view and negotiate.

My wife was negotiating with a vendor while I waited outside. The vendors partner then motioned me to enter the small room while they were arguing about the price. He then blocked me from exiting the room by positioning his chair across the exit and sitting on it. Would not move when requested. I had to wait until he got of the chair before we could exit.

The other vendor was getting agitated because we would not agree to his price, to the point of threatening us. Time to get out of there.

Didn't have any problems with other vendors. Overall they are less inclined to bargain than they were pre pandemic but still plenty of bargains to be had.

We visit here every trip to Manila for the shopping, plenty of restaurants and foot spa. Will return however avoid the bag section.
