Fantastic beach very close to the main road. Clear sand and miles of flat beach. When we went there in the morning, there was no one else other than us in this miles long beach. Highly recommended

So here you are driving around twisty roads with spectacular views around every corner - and you come to this little village with a slightly hippy flavour. You take a side road to the beach - and you find a spectacular sandy expanse, with oh...More

Lovely stroll through the native bush and along the foreshore. Spotted a sea lion on the move.. Papatowai beach is just another stunning example of this beautiful, unspoilt part of the South Island. To be enjoyed and protected for generations to come.

Easy access to yet another gorgeous beach without people, lots of space and some interesting wildlife. Got briefly chased by a sealion as I disturbed his sleep. Hilarious. Great memories

I'm not sure if this is the right beach, but we got there by taking a short trail down the back of the doc campsite. The weather wasn't that great while we were there but the beach was beautiful nonetheless. There was a long row...More

Far from the crowds. Perhaps only New Zealanders, just a few parents and their kids. Otherwise we had the place to ourselves. Beachcomber spot. Not drop dead beauty category, but a pleasant stroll on the beach.

In NZ just before the sunrises, there is a phenomenon known as "The Morning Chorus". Every native (and introduced) bird sings it's little heart out! The Picnic Point track goes thru a patch of mature coastal podocarp temperate rainforest and is a favourite roost site...More
