A nice walk along the river and woodland paths
with such a large open space its nice to be able to explore and seem to see something different every time we come here.

A mornings walk through Haughton Dale starting at Woodley and finishing there walking along the canal to the site of the old Gee X Mill down to Gibraltar Lane and left through Haughton Dale back up to Woodley. Great memories great landscape.

A lovely walk in the countryside...

We actually returned to Haughton Dale Nature Reserve a week after first visiting, simply because we'd underestimated the size of the place. It is a beautiful place to walk, through woods, beside the river Tame, listening to the birdsong, watching a kingfisher flit along, seeing many butterflies and dragonflies, damselflies and just enjoying the peace and quiet; ecotherapy at its best.

Nice walking area
Feb 2019 • Family
Been living close to this place for almost 10 years and never knew it existed. Hidden off the track it provides a connection on the Trans Pennine walk and is possible to walk quite a distance along the canal if you felt the need to do so. Open greens for dogs to run freely and a nice walk along with river would be better suited for the better weather. Some scenic views and a nice place for leisurely walk for an hour or 2 with some suitably placed seats to rest along the way. Would advise to bring suitable walking shoes or Wellington boots. Not recommended for anyone with walking disability nor does it have any wheelchair access. The downside for us was the lack of any real parking area.
