Chasse-Spleen is spreading in the Moulis area over 90 hectares (222 Acres. This magic name (chasing out the blues) is probably the result of a discussion back in 1860 between Rosa Ferriere, the Mistress of the place and her neighbour, Odilon Redon, a well-known symbolist painter. He was, among other things, the autor of the illustrations for Charles Baudelaires's Les Fleurs du Mal, in wich it is now known he copyrighted the word Spleen. In 1976, Chasse-Spleen was sold to Jacques Merlaut, a well-known wholesaler. In 2000, he entrusted one of his grand daughters : Céline Villars.

As part of a tour of the Medoc region, this stop was unique for its story and scenic grounds. While a smaller producer, the chart=eau has produced some award winning vintages and we enjoyed sampling several. Ask about the boots and look for the dancing...More

Many chateaux are closed on Saturdays as we found out (not having planned much, as usual!), but Chasse-Spleen was open and very welcoming. We didn't have the time to do a full tour or tasting, but found the gentleman who was manning the mini-boutique very...More

We had a good tasting with an informative guide. The visit was free because we bought some of the fantastic wine.

In my opinion, this is the best chateau in the Bordeaux wine region. Firstly, the wine itself is fantastic as you would expect - but there is much more here than just the wine. We only came to have a look around, but the kind...More
