It was such a joy to make this find in the quiet and beauty of Torcello Island. There was a gracious peace as I entered here in the beauty of God's simplicity; above all in the delicacy of the mosaics going back to ancient times;...More

A simple church on beautiful Torcello. We had a quick walk around and then returned to Venice. It was worth the visit to Torcello to see this church and enjoy a few drinks in a nearby restaurant’s garden.

We were lucky enough to have a guided tour with an extremely knowledgable lady from Uniworld Cruises, who spoke of the marvellous mosaics (11th and 12th century detail of Madonna and Child plus Last Judgement were awesome). The massively detailed wall artistry was superb. After...More

Whenever we visit Venice we almost always try to reserve a day to travel to the island of Torcello where fugitives from the barbarians first settled in the lagoon. It is a welcome respite from the tourist crowds around San Marco and Rialto. It also...More

The most beautiful, tranquil church I’ve ever visited. I much prefer it here to the cathedral also on torcello. They do get a lot of tourists mid day in summer so try to go early. There is no charge only if you want to light...More

I was a bit dismayed to find that these two buildings are lumped together on one page. Oh well. Santa Fosca is more of a chapel, with the highlight for me being the ancient carved capitals with their (what I believe to be) Romanesque ornaments....More

Worth the visit-9-11 century church with outstanding gold leaf mosaics. Ninth century mosaics on the floor. Church is oriented north/south instead of east west & windows only on the western wall.

The Basilica is a must visit. The quality of the audio tour was excellent.A very special place to reflect and savour the religious and spiritual potency of the building. Highly recommended.

Hi nancywis2, I do believe you will be fine visiting the Basilica. The dress code would be no different than any other church in Venice. Enjoy!
