We loved visiting Xunantunich! My husband and I love archaeological finds and ruins. Plus you access the road to the site by hand crank ferry! I've never seen one before. It was so hot that day but we conquered the steps up to the top!...More

Hike up the hill to a medium sized Mayan temple. There is several temples, rooms, playgrounds, and worship areas. You can do the whole thing in about 2 hours. Use a guide to learn a lot about Mayan history.

We had a rental car so drove to the site, but hired a guide just before getting on the ferry. I am so glad we did. Our guide was Dino, he grew up in the village and this Mayan site was his playground as a...More

We spent a lovely afternoon wandering through these ruins. SO cool--I could have spent hours there. I could just imagine Cortez's journey through here! A tough climb to the top, not recommended for anyone with balance problems or fear of heights. You can see across...More

One of the coolest Mayan ruins I've ever seen! Probably one of the biggest also. I could spend hours here, so much to see. The Mayan architecture is so incredible!

We had a great time at Xunantunich - we learned a lot from our great tour guide, Junior! The place is in great shape and seems to be well kept. It's a bit off the beat path, but if you are in Belize that shouldn't...More

Definitely get a guide-very good use of $30 US. Amazing ruins including 130 foot main "palace" where the royalty resided. Beautiful jungle setting close to the border with Guatemala. Worth the ride out from the coast. Learned the history of the site and excavation and...More

First off - I would suggest getting a guide. We hesitated at first because it was $30 USD - which seemed like a lot just to show us something that was clearly there. However, our guide, Edward (Eduardo?) made all the difference in the world....More

While I believe you can enter without a guide, there are not information signs so I highly recommend a guided tour, many outfitters in the area do tours here. If you can, try going after lunch, we literally had the entire place to ourselves for...More
