Always a great place to go, either for their extensive range of plants or to have fun at the mini golf. The train ride for younger children is a delight. The cafe is popular.

One of the most fiendish mini golf courses I have played. But definitely well set up and fun. Wal's Plant and Fun land is a couple of km off the highway to the airport. It's a great place to stop for a cuppa, and a round of mini golf on your way out of Dunedin.

A girlfriend suggested brunch and a browse here. I’d never been, I was in awe at the large modern cafe-restaurant venue with a large open outdoor area filled with benches, lush lawn and lots of ducks.

Bring winter the plant section itself was light on greenery and the store was generic plant items and random homewares such as soaps.

The best part of this catch up was the fish of the day which happened to be pan fried salmon on a curried potato rosti, veg and hollandaise. This was one of the best salmon meals I’ve had in Dunedin to date. $42 for a salmon lunch meal and a glass of house red which was Oyster Bay Pinot noir. The skill executed in respecting the salmon and the flavour execution amidst the elements that accompanied the salmon far surpassed my expectations. Having eaten salmon all over NZ, all I can say is wow! ...And finally a dish without rice, pasta or mashed potato! Thanks Wals!

Delighted to visit on a Sunday with our 3 year old grandson who is train mad. He really enjoyed the model train ride and see and touch and sit on all the other models that were out on display. Older family members can play mini golf, browse the garden and purchase a variety of plants. Another bonus’s is the cafe where you can have coffee and cake or enjoy a tasty lunch as we did. Highly recommend.

Had a good family lunch for the five of us. The soup was a bit thick more a chicken vegetable stew but the other foods were enjoyable. Recommended. Good service.

Came here for a Xmas function and it was good fun. The course is a good size with enough challenge for the adults but not too difficult for the little ones. If you don't want to play minigolf then the train is usually on to take you around the outside of the course. Highly recommend coming here for lots of fun.

Great location. However there was inconsistency on the surface of the holes - some were old AstroTurf some was new which made playing certain holes more difficult. The pars were simply unachievable by anyone less than a professional mini golfer!! Wasn’t clear where the course started. The holes were a good size 👍🏾 Looking for a bit more flavour from each of the holes and a bit more course maintenance

Thank you for your review. Just to advise the mini golf course was being re-surfaced which took a couple of weeks to complete and has been fully refurbished. The course is designed for all age groups with some being a bit of pot luck for the little ones and some more competitive. We hope that you will come back and enjoy the course again on your next visit.

I was taking two other family members out to lunch and asked them for a recommendation. They said that Wal's in Mossgiel was a good place so that is where we went. We were not at all disappointed. After admiring some of the plants in the garden centre, we found the restaurant. Fresh, clean and airy but warm, and with friendly efficient staff. Our food and drinks were brought quickly and were delicious. While it was mid-winter when I visited, there was much to see. Sadly the miniature railroad was closed for the season - had that been running, I would have awarded six stars!

Took grandchildren out to play mini golf while we looked around all the plants, they loved it and kept them entertained for ages. When finished we all went and had a coffee and food in the café which was very nice.
