This Russian architerture masterpice of pre-Mongolian period is to be admired mostly from the outside. My favourite angle is from an ancient and still existing earth mound behind it but, naturally, tastes differ. In any case, do not try to step in and especially waste money on an entry ticket - there's absolutely nothing inside, just bare white walls.
It's really hard to find a parking place nearby but there's a typical Russian trick. If you drive Pereslavl's thoroughfare from Yaroslavl to Moscow look right and when you see the green mound and a blue traffic sign "drive straight forward" turn immediately to the right, to that mound, and you'll most probably find a place for your car. Sounds like breaking traffic rules? C'mon, you're in Russia!

It's written that it was built in 1152-1157 (I believe),
Walls are thick and it's nice and cool inside. Though not many things to observe inside.

The cathedral is reported to be one of the oldest white stone buildings in Russia (1152-1157). There is a single green dome on this simple four sided structure with a green roof. The fee to enter was 80 Rubles. The interior is simply one small room that has been emptied out over time. It is now more a monument than a church. Worth a visit if Interested in local history.

Probably the oldest standing monument in Pereslavl-Zalessky, breath-takingin its beauty, with the green domes integrated with the green grass and tress around it.
Very few people (if at all) to disturb your calm admiration of this pearl of ancient
Russian architecture. Do not leave town without seeing it.

This is one of the oldest stone churches that did not destroyed. The wall paintings were removed from it and lost in the 19th century, the other values were looted by Soviet authority. The walls of the church are simple and have not ornaments.
If you travel to Rostov, you should stay in Pereslavl for a few hours or a day and to visit several former monasteries, to walk along the river and swim in the lake. Bus station in Pereslavl is very simple and does not have luggage room. Public transport to the attractions around of Pereslavl goes very rare and the attractions are not so interesting. More good visit to Borisoglebsk nearby Rostov.

A 12th century building still breathing in this era. Other than the historical there is nothing much to add, as there are only walls inside. Makes for a nice photo op and thats it...!!
