Beautiful church with ornate woodwork. Probably not as grand as Notre Dame but entrance is free. Some street parking available on the side of the church for a fee. According to the signs the parking is only available until 2:30 PM and then it becomes a tow zone. Wouldn't plan more than an hour unless you are a person who likes to read every sign and see every piece of stained glass.

This is a very beautiful church. The Irish influences are evident in the stained glass windows. It’s not as grand as the Notre Dame but still very lovely! The statues and woodwork are very detailed and ornate. Definitely worth a visit! There is quite a bit of disrepair on the outside but don’t let that deter you from visiting!

In a city of many churches, this is a fairly big one, but it is not one of the most memorable. It was OK, but I do not recommend that you make a special effort,

We just stepped in the side door and were the only ones in the building as far as we could tell. Quiet and contemplative spot to just meditate for a bit.

Recently, a friend of mine and I have been revisiting churches here in Montreal. Sat. afternoons--every 2 or 3 weeks. Not really playing tourist, but in an attempt to revisit the often ethereal beauty of these spaces. St. Patrick's is warm. And dark. And haunting. Magnificent. Also womb-like and welcoming. "(Come in under the shadow of this red rock") An oasis from the urban summer heat. And warmth in winter. The space seems to ask those who come to enter into some other world. The light through the windows--dark and brilliant. It offers a kind of palpable beauty that invites the imagination. Suffering? Certainly. You can feel the prayers of those who have come seeking guidance and solace. You can also feel the beauty and grace that holds us and pushes us upward. A place to meditate. Contemplate. Appreciate. And write. A place out of time---when you need it.

I recently visited St. Patrick's with my dad on Good Friday and attended the Passion Mass. I would definitely recommend this site as a must-see on a visit to Montreal, defintely in my top three list of religious buildings (the other two behind St. Joseph's Oratory and Notre Dame Basilica)
Highlights:
Gorgeous interior; one of the best I've seen in Montreal; from the wooden beams/columns to the stairwells to the frescos and paintings
Super-impressed given the age of the basilica (built in the mid 19th century)
Staff was kind of enough to find us an available bench for attending the mass
Lots of informative brochures onsite providing explanations of the basilica's architecture
Cons: None

I also did my confirmation there in 1972. I've gone back a few times since then and the craftsmanship is amazing.

I have been a parishioner at St. Patrick’s for about 2 years and love the community and the beautiful basilica. I was also married there and it was beautiful.

Can you have your wedding ceremony here?

I am really, not sure. I would contact the church and see if they do wedding ceremonies for people who are not parishioners of their parish. It really is a beautiful church. The grounds around it have some disrepair however.
