Very imposing structure. The closest approach to it is in a little parkette on Venice St. in Little Italy.

We went to see this part of Canadian history before it is demolished. Impressive in its size (100’ diameter) and height- second tallest structure in Canada

We Always wanted to see these huge stacks. As Canafians this is what we think of when we think of Sudbury.

The news had the story about the 2 smaller stacks that will replace this one next year. The plan is to take the superstack down starting in 2020 depending on the budget. It has always been a beacon arriving in Sudbury from any direction. Not really a tourist attraction but you can get really close to the bottom in Little Italy where the plaque honouring the Italians that live there is.

The tallest thing for a real long ways! And used to be the tallest chimney anywhere in North America. But they are now building short stacks better suited to the small amount of smelter off-gas now emitted. In a few years, this will lose it's local cloud and be shut down, probably torn down.

Inside the Sudbury Smelter, is the tallest smoke stak in the world. This engineering smoke stack takes the toxic byproduct of smelting ore's and sends them up into the air, to disperse and land far away from Sudbury. We now have a much better environment in Sudbury due to the Super stack. It is very tall and thousand of tons of concrete were used to build it.

But you gotta get as close as you can. You cant tell how really big it is unless you can get to the very bottom which seemed hard to do and you must look it up on wikiedia or something. We ended up in an employees parking lot to get close. I know we could have been closer. Its sort of amazing when you think about the size , how far the smoke goes, and that they say it will be coming down in a few years. How are they going to get this thing down?

An area landmark that has been standing since the late 1960s. to really appreciate it's height, go to its base in Little Italy in Copper Cliff. There has been talk of it being demolished since the new technologies will minimize emissions. See it before it's gone.

Do not be fooled this is not much of an attraction there is no tours or much to see. You can see the stack from miles away and is known to the locals as a symbol of home. It resides on Inco property which usually you cannot access. For historical information I suggest going to dynamic earth, it most likely would be posted there

I don't really understand how this is a tourist attraction, there is no formal tour of the smokestack and never has been, and I assume there will never be. You can drive by it and look up at it, it's pretty cool and has been a landmark in Sudbury for generations. You can see it from all over the city, and that is all there is to see. I wouldn't make the ride out to Coppercliff just to see it.
