Just my opinion
Aug 2020
Just came back from this place we r from hamilton it was raining nothing 2 do so decided 2 check it out. They had a few different animals we stayed about an hr, i really wish they didn't have these cats that should most definitly b in the wild they looked so sad and the animals that looked like baby foxes also should not b caged up they also look really sad and i think not looking that good, the croc and alligator another species who should b in the wild. I think they do their best with them but i think these animals should not b in such small enclosures.

Don’t let the humble exterior fool you.

I was pleasantly surprised by the number and diversity of animals on display at Northern Exotics; it really is a mini-zoo. Reptile enthusiasts will be particularly impressed with the many species of lizards, snakes, turtles, and even crocodilians. They also have parrots, a fennec fox, lemurs, and many other interesting residents. I especially liked the squirrel monkeys jumping around their enclosure, very entertaining. The staff were also very friendly and knowledgeable. Glad to see that these former pets have a good home and are well cared for.

Horrible place
May 2020 • Solo
This place exploits animals. They sell products that are harmful to animals. My cat had a seizure after using hartz products bought in this store... I thought they were reputable but I was wrong!

We still have the emails from this incident, March 2, 2015, where you told us that your cat was foaming at the mouth after applying the medication. At 3:16pm that day, you informed us of the issue at which time we reached out to the supplier, the manufacturer, and a vet to look into this situation. By 5:31pm we replied with “We also finally got a reply from one of the reps for the product and he says the product is bitter tasting and salivation may occur for a short time if the cat licks the product immediately after treatment. Treatment at the base of the skull will minimize the opportunity for the cat to lick the product.” For which you replied, “OK thank you. I just am at a loss for words as well. Especially after I saw all these things online. They seem to be fine now. Thank you”. Your cat reacted because it got some in its mouth, which is completely normal and would happen regardless of what flea medication you used; it is a response to the taste. There was no seizure, that only came in later when we refused to remove the product because of what you read online and you responded by leaving us negative reviews. For which we explained that fleas are a great health risk and must be treated for, which unfortunately chemicals need to be used and with all treatments there are risks. We further explained it to be like penicillin; how to many it is a wonderful treatment but unfortunately to some it can be deadly and more often than not, a person’s response isn’t discovered until after they get the medication. So it’s impossible to really know before-hand how someone will respond to a treatment. This is also why it is so important TO READ THE INSTSRUCTIONS to limit risks but we cannot make somebody read the instructions. Still to this day, more than five years later and after selling the product to hundreds of people, the only issue we ever had with this product was your cat foaming at the mouth.

Beyond Expectations (in a great way!)
Jul 2019
It's a pet shop in the front and an animal sanctuary at the back. The staff were knowledgeable and super friendly, but never obtrusive. We were allowed to explore and look at the animals at our own pace, and we took our time because there were just so many exotic pets that were given up that it felt more comprehensive than some zoos we had been in. The sanctuary section is meant to be educational; some animals do not make for good pets, and this place is doing its best with limited resources to provide as comfortable a home for the abandoned creatures as possible. They must be doing a great job because during feeding time, you could see how there was trust between handlers and animals and no one was in danger of being attacked.
Snakes, spiders, frogs, lemurs, alligators, crocodiles, geckos, lizards, birds and other small mammals, they were just amazing to see and we spent a good two hours discovering more about them.
This place is well worth the admission price; just make sure you don't knock on the glass and disturb the animals!

A gem where you wouldn't expect it!

We specifically sought this place out because of the reviews on here and we were not disappointed. My son (17 months) loved seeing all the animals which appeared to be clean and well-cared for. The staff members were very friendly and knowledgable and even brought out various animals/creatures for us to see. Do not judge this book by its cover of the neighbourhood that surrounds it and give it a chance.

Had the opportunity to take a tour here last month and I must say I was blown away. I had no idea we had a quality exhibit of this magnitude in the heart of Sudbury.

The owners are super friendly and so knowledgeable on the history of each critter in their care. Perfect option if you are looking to pass a couple hours in town.

Wonderful Business !
Sep 2017 • Couples
We were up from Toronto visiting friends for the Labour Day weekend and we're looking for things to do in Sudbury. We Googled that and up popped Northern Exotics and their shop and indoor zoo. Being that we have a ball python and a couple of leopard geckos as pets, we definitely wanted to check this place out.

We were pleased to walk in and see a neat and clean business that was well stocked and we were greeted pleasantly right at the front desk.

After talking with the owners and hearing more about what they had to offer in the exhibit, we paid our admissions and headed to the back of the store. What a surprise for us ! We really didn't expect to find what we did, even after having it described to us at the front of the store !

Well laid out clean exhibits and so many different animals for us to see. The information signs we really great and explained so much about each animal that we were looking at. The staff visited us just enough to let us know that they were there to answer any questions we might have and we got to interact with their red tailed boa and feed a chameleon. Priscilla the porcupine was the first to say hello to us as we entered the exhibit area.

We told them that we had come in from Toronto for the weekend and had found them on Trip Advisor.

As we talked with them, it came up that we were having a couple of problems with our ball python. Without hesitation, and knowing that we were not local and wouldn't be regular paying customers, they offered insight as to what we could do to correct these issues. Their concern was for us as pet owners and of course the well being of our snake. It didn't matter that they weren't going to benefit much from us financially, they just have an interest in creating good situations for people and their pets.

Our friends didn't realise that this place existed in Sudbury but they do now and will be telling their friends and we of course will do the same back here at home. Before we realised it, we had spent almost 2 hours at Northern Exotics !

We'll definitely stop in to visit again next time we're in Sudbury ! Keep up the great work Northern Exotics ! !
