This cinema is lovely and quaint. It is a wonderful escape from the mainstream theaters. The scent of popcorn as we entered is almost as irresistible as the cute interior design. The seats are cozy and great for movie viewing. Wished the steps were better...More

The Byway Cinema truly represents the term “cheap seats”. The cinema is dates but still offers good movies and popcorn. The prices aren’t as as reasonable as as in other cities but they are still less then larger cinemas. All in all this place is...More

My daughter and I went to see a movie here on a whim! What a treat! Happened to see The Shape of Water- loved it. But also loved the old wicket style window where we purchased our tickets. The old fashioned concession bar.... the fact...More

We love their films; we cannot understand their stubborn refusal to keep up with the times. We are getting very close to a cashless society- even parking meters take credit cards - but the ByTown still refuses to accept that reality. If they are worried...More

Happened to be in Ottawa during the Ottawa International Animation Festival and got to see a couple of screenings in this old cinema. This place is casual, laid back and really gives you an old movie theatre feel...loved it. Yes, it's a little run down,...More

The ByTowne Cinema on Rideau Street is an old-tyme movie house that's been around for a long, long time. Sure, it's a little tired and worn, but it is dripping with nostalgia. This is the place to go to see art house, eclectic, independent, and...More

Great to be back at the old ByTowne Cinema which used to run older classic films 30 years back and still does many second run and more modern films! Varied showcase and delightful old theatre charm with delightful variety of film-treats available. Excellent place to...More

They play a good selection of films here (film festival type stuff, etc.) right up my alley. However, a staff member was exceptionally rude when I was confused as where to buy tickets...

The Bytowne is a wonderful theatre where you can enjoy international and independent movies that you would not otherwise be able to see in Ottawa. The theatre was renovated in 2013, the seats are extremely comfortable and the whole ambiance of the theatre is a...More

Don't go there for 3D or imax movies. Bytowne has a great variety of interesting films from different origins. Make sure to check their website for updates, films are shown maybe for a week only. Going there feels like a trip to a different era.
