Overview
More
Completed in 1890, Craigdarroch is a stately home built by the pioneering couple Robert and Joan Dunsmuir, who at the time of its construction were the wealthiest people in British Columbia. Called a 'castle' due to its imposing exterior, the luxurious interior has been restored to look as though the visitor is a guest of Mrs. Dunsmuir during the 1890s. It features beautiful woodwork, unique Victorian artifacts, and an impressive collection of original stained glass, all within a pleasant walk from downtown Victoria.

The history of the castle was well-presented. The video is worth sitting through. We went early in the morning and missed the tour bus and cruise ship crowds that were arriving when we left. The tour is linear; you go up, up, up and then...More

Very well restored castle/mansion sitting on a hill overlooking Victoria. An easy walk from downtown. It is a lovely home featuring some wonderful wood work inside and the place is spotless. Some of the rooms are a little musty smelling but this is to be...More

A five minute drive from the Parliament building. This large stone home was built by Scottish Emigrants in the late 1880s.

We ate breakfast at Shine and walked to Castle after, about 10 minute walk. The house and the story behind it was interesting. Unique and well worth seeing, a little slice of Victoria history

Craigdarroch Castle and the Dunsmuir family have a fascinating history. Touring the Castle takes you back in time. Anyone who enjoys elegance and the atmosphere of an age gone by will love the Castle.

This large house is worth a visit, it is well appointed and is easy to get round with the self guide information leaflet. It tells the story of the Dunsmuir family who came from Scotland.

Being from the U.K., this is much more of a house than a castle! But none-the-less, it is a beautiful building with lots of fascinating history. Worth spending a morning/afternoon whilst in Victoria.

Lovely huge fully furnished mansion. The place is beautiful and filled with unique woodwork and special rooms. The historical film is a must to understand the home and the precious occupants. Don't miss it!

While the views from the "castle" are great, it really is just as big house that some rich guy spent way too much money on just to impress people. The architecture is kind of interesting, but I would not pay to tour this house again.
