    A good China Town.
This was a nice little China Town. Way better than Vancouver's. Cool little alleys and side streets. We got fresh egg rolls from Ocean Garden on the corner. It was nice to get some original foods. Its only a couple blocks long but with inter connecting alley ways you have to check out. Little stores you may miss.

    Well maintained historic Chinatown
Three interesting aspects of Chinatown in Victoria were: the historic gateway on Fisgard St, Fan Tan Alley and the restaurants. The area seemed safe and in a well maintained condition. It was great for a meal in the evening.

    Worth a look!
Though on the small side, you get to enjoy Canada’s oldest Chinatown with a look around at many of the shops and of course Fan Tan Alley. Noticeably cleaner than many Chinatown’s I have visited in Canada and the US, you do feel safe and find some interesting products to look at and buy (possibly). Visited a record store, the Johnson Street Bridge and a couple of shops. Been in the neighbourhood before and will be back, hopefully next time for some food!

The place is interesting to see. I’ve tried one Filipino Bakeshop and it is good. The alleys are worth to visit and very nice to take pictures.

A quick tour around China Town with a fabulous lunch at Don Mee before leaving the city. Wanted to explore down the alleys and stores but that will have to be the next time.

Visiting Chinatowns has always fascinated me. I do so not only to try out authentic Chinese cuisine, but also to buy souvenirs at the best price. I also love taking pictures of some ornate and colorful Chinese structures (like temples, pagodas, arches, etc.). Well, you'll find all these at Vancouver's Chinatown. However, there's a downside to it. The area is also a favorite spot for homeless people, most of whom are drug users. They're strewn all over the place (particularly along East Hastings Street), creating an unpleasant sight and somewhat scaring visitors away. In this case, the place really needs a good clean-up. Otherwise, I imagine that the Chinese community there will be moving elsewhere, where they would feel safer and their businesses can attract more clients. 😉

We went through Chinatown today. While it was smaller, than Seattle’s Chinatown, my son and I still enjoyed the neighborhood shops and restaurants. We also enjoyed Fan Tan Alley, which had a lot of interesting shops. If you’re into tarot cards, Wiccan, Buddhist, it’s definitely worth checking out. Very reasonably priced. Shop owners were nice and the neighborhood had bright decorations.

The best thing for us was the Chinese Gardens and the docent was excellent.
Outside of that, walking the streets, window shopping, it smelled of human waste and disinfectant. Our Uber driver said that the city had recently cleared out homeless camps on the sidewalks. We saw some evidence of people not doing well at all.
This is a tragedy encircling N America which is a much larger conversation. Too bad a piece of Vancouver history is being lost.

China town is great for strolling around. Fan Tan alley and Dragon alley are great places to wander through.. very cool.
The alleys will take you to other stores not seen from the street.
Enjoy the culture and history.
