The area
Neighborhood: Kitsilano
Kitsilano is one of Vancouver's most transformative neighbourhoods. With a long history of coffee culture and poetry readings, its days of flower children and buskers may be long-gone, but not without leaving their mark on the number of organic restaurants and fair-trade cafes in the area. At the centre of Kitsilano ("Kits" for short) the almost idyllic expanse of Kits Beach offers the opportunity for a relaxed afternoon of beach volleyball or sunbathing. Along with the beachfront, nearby public pools and trendy street-beats have driven up the homeowners prices, making it a haven for stylish home goods stores, from design and furniture, to supplies and appliances. The multitude of both families and public spaces also make it a happening neighbourhood in the summer, when festivals and fairs take to Kits' streets.

Worst ever

Hands down, the worst facial I’ve ever had. It was like getting slapped with sandpaper for 75 minutes. There was not a moment of relaxation and my skin has been reacting ever since. My facialist was extremely aggressive with my skin, kneading it like a back massage, including around the eye area. I’m not even sure where to start. She was sick and sniffing the whole time and yet breathing in my face. We started 15 minutes late even though I could see her walking around the whole time prior. I had a 15 minute massage to start. She walked in, literally pulled the sheet down to almost my knees, exposing my whole back side and started elbowing me in the back. No slow progression, no “is this comfortable for you”. It was painful (not in a good or purposeful way) and actually injured my shoulder blade. Likewise, when she asked me to turn over, lifting the blanket from the top of the bed and exposing me, there was no concern for comfort. She began applying a similar approach to my face as she had to my back. I asked her if she could be more gentle on my face and she responded that she was just cleaning it really thoroughly. This continued for the rest of the facial. My sister and I both considered asking for refunds because of how shockingly bad this was particularly given how expensive it was. My main concern is that during the facial, they apply micro currents to the face for a significant amount of time. I only hope the aestheticians have proper training for that portion.

Not totally happy with facial!

I went for the vichy shower and the facial. The vichy was a good experience, but the water and soap came in my eyes and face, had to constantly turn away, and my nose was hurting. The facial was not good, afterwards (after 1 day) I got a rash on more than half my face, probably because the esthetician put a too strong peel on my face and too hot towel in red room light without the magnifier on, so she didn't realize my face type was sensitive, she didn't even ask. So after few days my skin still feels irritated and doesn't look smooth at all, my natural condition of my face looked much better. I hope it heals soon. :(

I am very picky with salons, so moving to a new country I was nervous whether I'd find a salon/spa I'd be happy with. But, no reason to worry at all- Beverly's is awesome and I highly recommend it :)
I've so far experienced a very relaxing facial (they use Dermatologica), an excellent gel manicure (beautifully done!), a nice pedicure (their facilities are awesome, such nice chairs), lashes (normal service) and brows (best brows I've had done in years). All staff at Beverly's seems very friendly and professional. Amy is a true sweetheart and makes the experience very enjoyable.
The atmosphere at Beverly's is great- there is an upstairs area for relax that includes a complimentary drinks station (tea, infused water, juice, wine) and apples. Further, tehy have a steam room and you are given a fluffy robe and flipflops on arrival, even if you aren't having a massage done.
They can get you in very quickly, I called (as a new customer) and got an appointment for 2 days after that. They are very flexible on appointments in general.
Yes, the spa is pricey, but I would say it's very much worth it.

A magical day of relaxation!

Beverly's the Spa on 4th is one of the best spas i've ever been to. It looks quite small from the outside, but once inside it is a three-level spa which includes everything you need. There is a changing room including showers (seperate for men and women) and a nice relaxation area where you can enjoy wine, cranberry juice or tea for free. I enjoyed a nice couples massage with my partner and I was surprised by the wonderful romantic setting when we walked in. We were helped by Lydia and Sarah and both of them were wonderful and made this a nice experience. We could enjoy the steam cabin for free after the massage. I also got a pedicure on which they did a wonderful job. Rates were pretty good too. If you are in Vancouver don't miss out on this spa!

What a fabulous spa!

Beverly's the Spa on 4th, (open since 1982), is a wonderful neighborhood spa on 4th Avenue in Kitsilano (an area with interesting stores and cafes). I’ve been a loyal customer for years, going at least once a month. The spa is on three-levels with reception, make-up, products and new tea bar on the middle floor, treatment rooms on the bottom floor and the third floor has the spa service waiting area and various rooms depending on the service you’re getting. They have a 4 person pedicure room on the third floor. There’s a steam room and showers in the changing area.

The atmosphere is warm and friendly. It’s not like those big impersonal spas where you go from person to person. I always book with the same person and she does all of the services I’ve booked for the day.

They have a wide variety of spa services, monthly specials and packages. I particularly enjoy the Vichy shower. You lie on a special bed in a “wet room” and there’s a horizontal pole with approximately 5 shower heads of water pouring over you. Heavenly! And having a head massage at the same time; well, what can I say? They have a good range of products including Dermalogica.

Prior to a vacation, I always go to Beverly’s for a pedicure, facial, scrub, Vichy shower and lotion tan. Usually, when I’m asked what I’d like for a present, I’ll request a Beverly’s gift certificate. And on a side note, as I like to say, “nothing says I’m sorry like a Gift Certificate to Beverly’s”.

I highly recommend this spa. I’ve been to a number of spas and none of them compare.
